Hacking Downgrading CECH-2001A 120 GB PS3 slim model

Hello, tempers. Sorry for the stupid questions but guides on how to install CFW on various PS3 models are much less straightforward than with the Wii and other platforms. From what I've managed to find out, (I think) my CECH-2001A model PS3 is old enough to be downgraded, and new enough not to require soldering. I am on OFW 4.41 at the moment, and I have read that the E3 flasher is the best way to downgrade to 3.55 OFW and progress from there.

So my questions are:

1. Is E3 really the best way to go as opposed to its alternatives? Why?
2. Do I need to solder anything with my model of PS3?
3. Where can I find a guide on how best to approach my situation?

1. Yes because your PS3 is a NOR model and the E3 doesn't require soldering.
