Homebrew Downgrading an old3DS XL for use with a9hl?

I read somewhere that the oldest firmware for the (old)XL was 3.1, and using Plailect's guide, I have to downgrade the emuNAND to 2.1, then flash it to the sysNAND. Will my console be able to downgrade, even if the firmware on launch was 3.1?

It will work. O3DS XL is the same as O3DS, just larger screen.
On N3DS you have to do some more steps to make it work with 2.1.0.
