the tut is very reliable. just read the instructions carefully. because you are at 4.2, follow first the 4.2 softmod guide then do the 4.2 to 4.1 downgrade.

It can be dangerous to downgrade from 4.2 to 4.1. 4.2 has pretty much everything 4.1 has to offer anyway, including region free now.

downgrading from 4.2 to 4.1 is as simple as installing one IOS (IOS60 v6174, used by 4.1) and the system menu itself.

There's always a chance of that bricking you, but its not very big in this case

the cool dude said it right. the only issue that can cause brick for this downgrade is if you use a faulty system menu wad. knowing xzxero's tut package, everything works perfectly.

besides downgrading to 4.1 doesn't require much work.

There's no need to downgrade IMO, now that you're already on 4.2. Just follow the 'Modify 4.2" section of the famous guide and you will be running all of your apps just as you did before.

xzxero's guide doesn't contain a 4.2 to 4.1 section anymore

and it isn't needed too, since 4.2 can have everything 4.1 has.

its been a while since i visited xzxero's thread. it has changed a lot since then. well if he really wants to downgrade his wii from 4.2 to 4.1 then like you stated from your post here...it is as easy as installing ios60 (v6174) wad first and then 4.1 system menu wad NUS downloaded.

I'm not positive but if you try to install that wad it will not overwrite due to the stub ios 60 that goes in on the update and he will brick? I would say to remove the stub first then install the wad and system menu.

Why was the 4.2 to 4.1 post taken down?

I have a WODE and I need 4.1 to avoid using a softmod to load my NTSC games.

If anyone can assist me with finding a safe step by step that would be good, there are other guides but I have been told via this site was the most safest.
