I only have a DSi XL (All the other ones have either been sold or given away) and it doesn't make a sound on the first hinge, which is a hinge that allows for comfortable viewing on a table (like on the commercials.)

The second hinge, which is the hinge that the DSi normally is played on, makes a snap, but it sounds normal.

You say that as though you're generalising.

It's customary to use it in the first position isn't it?

out of all 3 of my ds systems (phat, lite and dsi ll) they all make some click but my dsi ll doesn't in the 1st spot only clicks on the 2nd and 3rd spots but its done that since i got it at launch so i'm guessing its normal

My DSLite always makes a click. It makes me worried that I'm wearing it out and that it might not be as still later on in the future, but I think that's just me being paranoid. :S

I think you're confusing the DSi XL with the other DS models.

The DSi XL has 3 hinge positions compared to thee usual 2. To clarify:
DSi XL Position 1 = Nonexistant in other DSs
DSi XL Position 2 = Other DS Position 1
DSi XL Position 3 = Other DS Position 2
So in other words, if you plan on holding the DSi XL, it's best to keep it at position 2.

Also, I'm pretty sure the clicking is normal. It clicks for everyone I know who has any DS model IIRC (excluding those with broken hinges).

Actually, the DSi XL has 3 hinges, and the first is not in the other ds models.

YayMii beat me to the punch though.

As I was writing my post I had considered that you were referring to the XL but as you only said "DSi" I had no way to tell.

Does your Nintendo DS make a clicking sound when Its opened? My DSi doesn't. I had it for about a year and its still silent like when its new out of the box. ^^

VoteVoteVoteVoteVote! ;D Its just for fun. lol.

Wasn't it the DSLite that suffered from this? The hinge started clicking, then a week later part of it fell off?

That'll be why your DSi doesn't have the same problem......

There's a tonne of words I'd use for this vote, but 'Fun' isn't one of them! You smug little prick!

Yes, I have a DSLite with a messed up hinge!!

Umm, read the thread next time. You'll notice that a bunch of people (including me) who have DSis (or DSi XLs) that hear a clicking sound. And you won't find anybody who has a DSi (or a DSi XL) with a cracked hinge (Nintendo fixed the problem already).
