Hacking Does the version of firmware affect flashing?

Edit: Ok, forget about what the title says, I have a different question now.
I have a flashmev7 file from Opium's Flashme guide and It's 526KB, I have another v7 file from MaxConsole and it's 270KB, why is one bigger?

Edit #2: Ok, after searching around maxconsole, I learned that the smaller one is a beta and has 2 brightness lvls, the larger one is a final release with all brightness lvls. Thank god

Opiums has both flashmes in it, the one with the light and the one without.

i tell them by the date they were compressed, seems ones i have with date 4/19/2006 is the flashme 7b with brightness settings

also dont forget to grab WRG's Noflashme since the original noflashme doesnt like the ds lites
