Nintendo seems to have taken a more modern approach with the Switch. There is no catchy music or anything like that. The E-Shop has no more pizzazz and just shows the games and what's new. Does anyone like this? I personally don't. It seems similar to Xbox and PS, and I dislike it. The music and glam made the Switch more charming. The games are lined up in a column with no personalizing allowed (Nintendo may add more features such as themes or more options, but this is as of now).

This may not seem like a big deal, but customization and charm makes the system more memorable. The Mii Channel music has sort of become a meme and parodies of it are all over youtube. People remember the charm and hilarity of the song. With the Switch, there is none of that.

Speaking of Miis, I hate how they handled it. I think how they handled them on the Wii was perfect. Going into the Mii Channel made me smile as I saw my avatars converse or walk around. On the Wii U, it was not as exciting. They were just put on shelves and didn't do anything. On 3DS, there was the Wii vibe coming from it. The Miis conversed and moved, but it wasn't as good as the Wii's style. And then the Switch. No movement, no conversing, not even a shelf. They just stared at you. And did nothing.

I love the Switch and Nintendo. They are doing incredible, but this layout is bugging me. Maybe it's just me. What do you guys think?

I’m personally okay with the homescreen because it wasn’t so much of a mess like the Wii U’s one, though I miss the music. The Eshop in the other hand, I hate it, it’s hard to find specific titles, and doesn’t have enough organization. It doesn’t have Jazzy music either. Hopefully they will change this in the future.

No problems with the UI here, does the job ...I'd rather be spending my Switch time playing the games y'know ;) But the e-shop, yeah fully agreed there, it's a shocker at the moment, there needs to be a bit of pizazz there, it's almost like they don't want your money. However that should change later this year, let's see what they come up with - hopefully we'll get something a little more cute and cheery like the Wii U has instead of another me-too PS/Xbox wannabe.

Just to be clear, I spend most of my time playing on the Switch too. I just wanted to comment on this.

I always keep the volume turned down on my 3DS when I'm not actually in a game, so I don't personally mind. It was nice to have some catchy music in the Wii U eShop, but it got annoying after a while when I was browsing through it to look for stuff to buy.
It would be nice to have some music in the eShop though. The home menu doesn't need music, it's just annoying to have music blasting at me as soon as I turn on the console.
It's not a big deal though. I like the GUI, it's clean, fast and intuitive. Not like the slow Wii U OS where it took like 20 seconds or more to open one of the built in apps, which was partially fixed in an update but it's still slow even now.

Every Nintendo console I have owned had that 'Nintendo' kind of feel: warm, comfortable, hearty (this could be absolute nonsense, but I'm saying it). The Switch doesn't in my opinion; it feels empty. On my 3DS i.e., I can't really explain it, but I can fiddle around with the OS when bored; there's always something to keep me busy; the camera features, the recording app, the notebook, the Mii channel etc. The Switch's system doesn't have all of that. I used to grab my 3ds when I had nothing to do, play around with it and after a while put it away. Now I just grab my phone instead of my Switch.

That's exactly how I feel. Well said.

Wii U had the best mii connections through Wara Wara Plaza, but now it's useless because Miiverse is dead.

Yeah well, 3ds wasn't much good at the beginning either but they improved and I like it's menu a lot. I'm sure later there will be lot more features and better game sorting\folders....

It's clean and fits a portable system, but is sorely lacking too. Themes and customization need to be there, and music would be really nice, even just an ambient track like on previous Nintendo systems. The worst transgression is easily the eShop. It's horrid, for one because of the utter lack of discovery options for finding new games. A game has to be a top-seller or on sale to ever be noticed, otherwise it'll get buried under the constant wave of new releases. There's just simply no other way for games to be displayed in front of shoppers. The eShop sorely needs personalized recommendations and curation like all other major storefronts. And music! I wholeheartedly agree with you there. Slap on some elevator music remix of a Mario theme or something, I loved this on Wii U and 3DS. Hope they bring it back one day!

I'm delaying judgment until the Switch Online service launches. I'm venturing a guess that many important system functions are gonna come all at once alongside a big revamp of their online infrastructure. I'm guessing the Online service got delayed a full year in order to implement a wide scope of changes and added features. Here's hoping.

I relly don't get why people complain about the Wii U Layout. I personally really liked it and prefer it over the Switchs.
I thought the Wii-U's layout was okay. I was pretty impressed with their browser, even though I only used it to start up hax. :P I could so see my self watching Youtube with that comfy tablet, if I didn't already own a laptop.

I actually enjoy it. It's simple, and currently not bloated by flashy effects and unnecessary transitions. Not to mention the ads on Xbox One.

The store front needs a makeover. It's TOO boring for my taste, and too simplistic. Dunno how I'd go about it, but something is definitely off.

just part of an overall cancerous trend , a minimalist trend in all OS material design well not just OS's but in general
the top 2 cancer tech giants like apple and google are in a race to see who can design the most minimalist material design interface

i really am curious to see which one will introduce their new interface aa a completely blank white screen
will it be for IOS, android , itunes? who knows but mark my words that one day soon one of these two will release an interface that will consist only of a totally blank white screen and only hipsters who know where to touch the screen or perform the proper gestures will be able to use it

everything is looking more and more shitty and generic and it is affecting functionality
i really do hate it

remember when buttons actually looked like button and not just a black word in a generic font typed out on a piece of blank white paper
serious what the fuck is this regressive shit , it fucking looks like shit ,android looks like shit he setting menu and allmenus looks lazy AF
every thing these days just looks like some shit that someone just typed out in fucking notepad with a keyboard with all broken shift keys ,sine there s not even any character and ascii type stuff, no lined dashes nothing , everything these days just looks like it was designed ona fukcing 1930's typewritter
