heck yes, there's awesome buskers at the central station... there's even kids who play awesome stuff : )
haven't started busking myself here in brisbane, but I'll try it in the nearest future... more busking, moh moneh : )

I know what it does to me. I know what it did to all those independent bands that don't exist anymore.
I'm not talking about the big guns out there, I don't care about all the commercialized crap thats playing on the radios. As i said before, downloading music from people who don't give a shit about it is fine, as long as you don't get caught.
But it's really frustrating to see that you can find more and more music from small upcoming bands on the net, neatly ripped with cover scans etc etc. THAT is not fair. Everybody can afford 5$ or 10$, because those bands sell more for less. And even that gets pirated.
 
I occasionally download some music. But I don't go overboard. I try to support independent bands, because they really need the money.

I would never pirate music from real independent artists, but I'll happily steal from the music factories ... and audiobooks are WAAAAAAY too expensive ... I know what the production costs are for those things ... they are next to nothing ... and if I want the author to get my money, I'll buy the book ... the authors don't see dick from the sales of audiobooks, in comaprison to what they get from book sales ...

thats why there's an audiobook flood! you just need somebody who can read out loud properly, with a good name, and you're good to go.
the production costs for an audiobook is only a tiny percent of the production costs of an music album; if you don't have an own homestudio, you gotta rent one for around 1000$ a day (or up to 10000$ a week, depends where you wanna record)... if you don't have a clue about recording at all, you'll also need to hire a sound engineer which means extra cost... transporting your gear can be expensive too (but first you need to buy it! google some prices for guitars and amplifiers and you'll get the idea)..

you can save a lot of money with a home studio (but setting up a decent studio costs you around 25000$ as well, but you could get along with 10000$ as well), but other factors will be still pretty damn pricey.

I could write a book about that, really. I think if the people knew what it takes to do what I love (recording/composing/performing) and would use a bit common sense.... maybe it'll be better for the next musicians to come.

less costs means more profit. but you can't really stop them from doing it.

No, but they are actually hurting themselves by using unknowns in audiobooks, as the buying public will perceive it as being of a lower quality ... the more famous the reader, the higher the production values of the audiobook ... that is how it is viewed by many ...
 
I download shitloads of music... but I also buy shitloads of music. My CD collection is closing in on 100 CDs, which isn't a lot compared to some people who have like thousands of CDs, but its a lot for me. I always buy CDs whenever I can
 
I only download. Infact, I don't remember when I -ever- bought music.

Reasons:
1. Music of today sucks
2. Music of yesterday sucks
3. I suck
4. Out of thousands of songs in discographies I've downloaded, I only like a handful of songs, and listen to them
 
I don't use P2P anymore. I either go to altavista+audio and narrow it down to mp3/windows media >1 minute and put what I want to find in that search. It brings up alot good stuff, but sometimes not everything I need.

I also go to www.Imeem.com and stream basically whatever I want from there. Users upload whatever they want and you can just search from what people have put up.
If I really like it I'll just enable the "Record What I hear" feature on my computer. Presto.
I've got what I needed.

Also searching on youtube or google video gets me the songs that pop into my head and I just need to listen to 5 times back to back that day and then forget about...
 
I only buy CD's to give to people as gifts, just cuz I'm too lazy to burn anything. Otherwise, all music downloaded.
