Hey All. I have just gotten lots of help on here modding my Wii (thank you!). So far, I've used the LetterBomb method to install HBC and BootMii. I've also decided to get the d2x cIOS installer (following this guide: https://wii.guide/cios). All my stuff seems to work great, but I heard about this IOS 236 and that I should get it. I really don't want to get into the technical side of things, but I just really want to know in a simple dumbed down standpoint:

Do I need to install IOS 236 if I've already installed cIOS (using this guide: https://wii.guide/cios)?

Not really. IOS236 is just a copy of a (trucha-patched) IOS36 that was installed in the past to try and circumvent Nintendo's checks during an update (them "fixing" IOS36 would still leave an usable IOS236).

Nowadays, it's pretty useless as 1. there will be no more updates and 2. almost every software uses HW_AHBPROT anyways.

I agree that in this particular case it is useless and not necessary. But HW_AHBPROT is subject to a network init bug in the HBC and in rare cases will crash in the middle of an operation when an app is launched via the HBC. So it's safer to install priiloader, system menu updates and SM IOS without ahbprot (and instead use a CIOS like 236 or 249,etc). Anyway, my point is it does serve a purpose, but once that purpose is served it's not necessary, but generally it's not worth the effort to remove it after the fact since it doesn't hurt anything.

U could use the d2x cios installer with ahbprot to generally accomplish the same thing, but the ios236 installer mod auto installs immediately upon launch. Not only does this minimize the risk of the hbc ahbprot network init bug but it simplifies the whole process. Once installed you can load 236 with a wad manager and install everything else in a single batch, whether it be ios's, system menu, cios's, channels, etc.

Also, as a purist I don't want my IOS36 patched
