Hacking [DIY] How to fix Gateway Error 00000012 and 00000019

Good news, it appears the GW team has located the problem some people are experiencing trying to download the Omega firmware. This is good news for those who know theirs aren't fake.

Dear valued customer, the cause of the error 12 & 19, experienced by a few users
during the FPGA update to Omega firmware, has been identified by our technical
team’s internal investigation.

From our test, we identified one specific pin of the FPGA that on a few Gateway
units is not making correct contact with the PCB due to mechanical stress during
packing / shipping. Since some people prefer DIY methods rather than sending
back the unit for RMA, below are details on how to proceed to fix this issue. AT
NO TIME ARE WE SUGGESTING THE BELOW PROCEDURE BE USED AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO RMA.
This error is due to a manufacturing error and you are of course entitled to an
exchange of your card if you prefer to do so.

The attached picture pin points the one specific pin which causes your symptoms
while not affecting any other part of the design. This pin is solely used for
updating the. There are 2 possible ways to attempt to fix this pin. Soldering
will fix error 12 & 19 in most cases, and is recommended. The tape method does
not always give results. Those comfortable and able to solder fine pitched pin
devices should opt for option (1) which is to attempt a touch up solder of the
pin highlighted. Obviously if this attempt is successful then the device will be
100 ok thereafter and able to readily accept future updates without issue.
Option (2) is a bit of a hit and miss trial but can yield the result we are
after.

By the way, can you use DSTWO instead this other GW card that is used for DS and hacking i guess.. i mean i'm guessing the price is high because you get 2 cards, not just 1.. so if i order 1 card the price would be cheaper, right? just saying...

Yeah, you can. The red Gateway card is only for 3DS games, and the blue card is for NDS games. Unfortunately, the blue card is no longer compatible with the newest firmware of the 3DS. So, the cheapest option, and the best option for NDS games, is to just go with the DSTWO card instead of the Gateway card. All summed up, for 3DS games, choose the Gateway card. For NDS games, choose the DSTWO card.

Alright, so a good reflow with soldering paste will help.
Of course you have to tear it apart otherwise you'd end up with melted gateway... and I wouldn't be yummy! LOL

So, the cheapest option, and the best option for NDS games, is to just go with the DSTWO card instead of the Gateway card. All summed up, for 3DS games, choose the Gateway card. For NDS games, choose the DSTWO card.

Yeah, i know that,. blue DS, red 3DS. So i can setup 3DS with DStwo, i dont need blue card?? why are they selling blue than, if majority of people have R4 or dstwo or other card.. so there is no place where ou can buy just Red card.. i dont need 2 DS cards and i dont want to pay for two cards :/

Blue card is working, but not on the latest Nintendo firmware update. But since you're supposed to use the Blue card to install the exploit on a 4.1-4.5 firmware, it works fine. It's not really meant to be used for playing DS games, anyway. I agree they should offer Red Gateway without the blue card for those that want to save a little money. But the amount would probably be very tiny.

And eachmall.me is selling for 62.22$ and if you take off blue card it would be 42.22$ for red GW alone!!!

The blue cart costs nowhere near $20, it probably is $5 max

Probably not even that, for GW it's wholesale price for a cart with an outdated design. I'm assuming (yes assumptions!) that (1) GW doesn't want the hassle of n00bs ordering just the GW card then asking for support why it's not working and (2) having to support al kinds of NDS carts where people are unable to install the exploit. This is just a single, uniform solution.

people are too quick to thining "right 2 cards, but i only need 1 of them......ig got ripped off i should of paid half"

gateway probably got these for practically nothing, and probably included them for nothing, no reseller would be able to shift a 4.x NDS card......well they probably could todsi and NDS users, but its still a card that gets 0 support, splitting them would just cause more trouble than to give them away for free and not have to deal with a ton of "my NDS card works on my DS lite but not my 3DS....you scammed me"

edit, for future readers:
I got my gateway repaired with soldering and it can now update. it wasn't working well at all, at first, but the next day it updated on the first try. so don't get too angry or sad if at first it looks like the soldering didn't work. let it rest for a night. I know, it's strange, lol

you could try asking the reseller to run the update before posting.......most won't but im sure some will if it means getting the sale

Eh, you can already get the Gateway 3DS for around $60 with both cards.

BS, as they never replied to emails since feb 19th over my bricked unit I sent them using their product, so it's a BIG dildo shaft to their legit users and forget about them now, since Omega 2.1 is out.
