I have ordered this Divx player
PHILIPS DVP5990/37 DVD Player w/1080p HDMI upconversion & DivX playback
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16882641285

I wanted to know if it can play Xvid videos seeing thats mostly what I have. (I don't think it does)

If it doesn't what is the fastest way to make these videos viewable on the DVD player via Flash Drive.
I have tried Auto Gordian Knot but it takes FOREVER. Is there any alternative ways to make it play and not as slow converting?

Avi's can be converted with Divx and Xvid they are 2 different codecs. I dont know if Xvid .Avi files will play on a Divx player.

I've got that exact model (or the UK version of it anyway), it plays Xvid fine. You'll have to use MpegModifier on the files if they've got Packed Bitstream and it doesn't do GMC but otherwise it'll play pretty much anything you grab in Mpeg4 .avi format.

How do I find if the file has Packed bitstream? Would MediaInfo tell me?

Edit this is what it tells me about the file where should I look or what program would tell me that information?

Buy a quad core CPU. Video conversion is one resource hungry beast.

My AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual core processor does a pretty good job though. Thing is I have a laptop so I cant upgrade the CPU.

I just load them into MpegModifier and that tells me and gives me an option to resave it without packed bitstream. It only takes a few seconds. I think in the output you showed it was the BVOP setting that's the packed bitstream but I'm not 100% certain without looking - just do a quick search on the net for xvid packed bitstream and it should tell you all you need to know.
