Read the guide again.
my apologies, the problem came after that, so i picked up the directions at the 3ds guide part VI. However, when i booted it there was no button to install boot9strap. also, assuming the white screen is the installation, when i booted up holding select, nothing happened. thoughts?

Make sure the boot.nds is on the root of your sd card.

Why does it say, "USB drive"? This should be an sdmc card.

Also, try this on the sd root. See if it boots anything.

"boot.nds" again. If it does boot, rename the b9stool to something.nds and see if you can boot it with the hb loader.
He may be using an adapter that labels it as such, especially if it's a microSD, its the same for me. Also isn't he missing the Nintendo 3DS Folder? Not that it should matter.

R4 card?! Why are you here?
The SD Card means your 3DS's SD card.
If you want to use your flashcard to install CFW, follow the ntrboot steps on https://3ds.hacks.guide

Hey community, i must apologize, I assumed that those files were loaded via the SD from an R4:wtf:. huuuge mistake. all is well now, I realized that the whole time it was the actual ds SD that i was supposed to use. THanks for all of your patience and for guidance:bow:. Awesome!:grog:

Amazing.
I feel the same way about noobs as Gandalf felt about Hobbits:

"Noobs really are amazing creatures, as I have said before. You can learn all that there is to know about their ways in a month, and yet after a hundred years they can still surprise you at a pinch."
:P

edit: Gandalf's wise words are now enshrined in my signature.
