Just curious, but is there any benefit to using GCMUtility to shrink the iso rather than just using DiskEx.exe -c -a? I just wrote a batch script so I could drag-and-drop my isos and have them DiskEx'd with compression and alignment all at once and that's way easier than shrinking them manually and then fstfixing...

:gc.bat
@echo off
if "%~dpnx1"=="" goto usage
@echo off
"%~dp0DiscEx.exe" -c -a %1
goto end
:usage
echo Usage:
echo Drag and drop a Gamecube ISO file here to extract it.
echo.
pause
:end

i just used disc-ex 8 and i am playing gc games perfectly

8?? And I was referring specifically to the shrinking aspect. I know GCMUtility's shrink function messes stuff up, which is why you have to fstfix afterward, and I was just wondering if discex -c had the same issue.

Hmm...here's a weird thing...

First thing to note: I'm using neek2o. I have more than one nand, but I use one as "main nand". Also, before I figured out you need to install cMIOS to the real NAND, I installed one (rev12) to my neek main nand (it's still there because I'm lazy like that). Since then, I update the cMIOS revisions on my real nand and all was fine (oh, I'm using postloader, in case it's important).

Now...I just installed r21, and after a few tests (Kirby air ride & Luigi's mansion still lock up) my neek2o configuration got a little messed up and used another nand instead of my main nand. By itself, it's not so bad (just switch back to my main nand). However...when I was using that other nand, all my GC games showed that "a disc error has occurred" message.

That kind of puzzles me. I was under the impression that even on neek2o, you need to install (& update) DML on the real nand. So how come it gives an error if I use a NAND that probably still has the same old regular MIOS?

So...really which MIOS do I need to update in order to truly test r21? (just the one on real nand, just the one on my emulated nand, or both?)

Qwerty, I have always used GCMUtility's shrink function and I haven't experienced anything wrong. What kind of things are supposed to be messed up?

In the how to thread I wrote how to use the loaders too, see 'On your wii'.

Just wondering, but how would you play multi-disc games with DML?

Specifically, Twin Snakes.
Save just before the point it says to change discs. Then reset and play Disc 2. I see no reason the map before it askes the Disc 2 shouldn't be there.
While you make a good point, I don't know if Twin Snakes works like that.

MGS is known to NOT allow you to save before the end of disc 1. It's on my TODO list, but not high priority.

Are there any major reasons as to why to update to DML r21 from r12?

I mean, is game compatibility significantly better?

Are there any problems with DMLr12 or 21?

For me the version that works better seems to be the r12. Also on my wii, only the r21 debug works. r21 standard just black screen... this is strange as I've seen a lot of ppl using r21...

For me r21 works like a charm, and I really liked that there is no more black borders with PAL60 games.on my PAL wii;)

I can confirm that, I use r21 since the very beginning and didn't have any problems with the games I tried other than those already mentioned in the compatibility list.

Lol, do you realize that "the very beginning" was less than 2 days ago?

No my wii settings is EDTV/HDTV (480p) but can try the 50Hz(576i) mode and report back if you want? (PAL Wii)
Does gamecube mode as standard ALSO run on that same settings? I was under the impression that gamecube mode had it's own defualt video mode and that's also why some games gives you the choise for 50Hz or 60Hz video mode.
