Hello!
So I got a V1 switch so I can atmosphere it, the digitizer is scratched and I'd like to replace it, i usually buy a lot from aliexpress, would love a link to a reliable source, also, since I have hetake, do I still need to be concerned about which version of digitizer I buy? (I.e qr code on the ribbon cable).

One more thing I wanted to know about opening up the digitizer, since I've never done this before, what are some do's and don'ts?
I have a bit of experience by opening up the joycon and replacing both the joystick and the buckles, the digitizer scares me as I don't want to brick the console.
Would a heated microwave pillow be better than a heat gun?

Thanks guys, I've been sitting on my switch for a very long time, trying to figure out how to do this big project.
I will also be replacing the thermal paste.

I don't have links but some people here do, there's a replacement screen option that has the screen bonded directly to the digitiser, so it looks better and there's no gaps for dust to get in. Might cost more than just the digitiser but worth considering. If you find the Aluminium Switch thread, I'm sure it's mentioned there.

Oh wow, this gives me some relief as I hope installing an already full assembled digi and lcd would be an easier installation for a first timer, is this the case?

Also, in the mentioned post, there are 2 aliexpress links, which one would you recommend and how would I find out which I need to order, the v1 or v2? From what I understand both should work but I'm still unsure.
THANKS AGAIN.

e: updated the link to the screen I actually bought https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003027582486.html

Yes! Much easier to install plus it’s an overall improvement of the screen. Really no reason to go original.

V1 vs V2 is all about your Switch. You have the V1 Switch, sooooo… ;-)

When they came out with V2 (Mariko) they change up the layout of the cables a little so they are not backwards compatible.

Wow, you have no idea how happy and relieved I am to have received a reply from you, not only did you ease my worry about the installation by getting a combo that will eliminate the possibility of dust but I will ALSO have an improved screen, I thank you so much when I posted on Reddit, I didn't get much of a reply.
Regarding the screen, is it just brighter, or has anything else been improved? did you notice the battery drained faster due to the brightness?

EDIT: which adhesive tape do I need to buy? mind throwing me a link to Ali?

I would love it if you could share a video that you used or if you didn't, any video that you deem to be helpful for the installation process as a beginner.
Are there any tips for the process? and if I'm already opening it up, anything else I should change besides the thermal paste? any mods you recommend doing? I was thinking of changing to a transparent case as it looks insanely nice, but I'm still not sure what id like to do.

i’s not brighter…it’s more…defined under brighter lights? Less glare so to speak.

I would just grab something local. I used the thinnest stuff I could find at Hobby Lobby. Nothing special about it…other than thin.

I didn’t make a video or know of one that exists. For tips and tricks look at my last post in the Aluminum Switch thread.

I personally installed an upgraded fan (also linked in the thread) and a Trinket M0 (a bit more complex and not recommended for first time out.)

If the digitizer is fully functional and scratches are not too deep then you can just try to stick a protection on the screen after cleaning it cautiously. The protection (soft film or tempered glass) sticks to the screen with a very small amount of silicone liquid adhesive pre-applied on it. I think there's a small chance that the adhesive will fill the scratches, and just make them invisible once the protection is applied...

Im not exactly sure what it is that needs the adhesive, is it the lcd to the actual base(plastic) of the switch?
is this what im looking for?: it says LCD screen so im not sure.

I applied a screen protector after reading about scratches a while ago, unforutnatley, it didnt help at all.

Yes, that’s it. You just need a thin strip of adhesive around the edge of the Switch’s frame/shell where it touches the back of the screen. If you’ll be waiting on the screen to ship anyway, I guess buying a $1.00 piece of tape won’t hurt anything in the overall scheme of things. :-)

Read my write up. It has a link to the iFixit site w/ lots of pictures.

Yes, I read your tips, didn't understand all of them as I've never done this nor do I usually do electronic work, this would be my first serious electronic "job". I have to say, the part about the but clenching threw me off, I thought it would be really easy.
Technically, since I am getting a digi lcd combo, ripping the ribbon cables while taking the old screen off wont be as impactful since I'm going to connect the ones that arrive with the screen, no? either way, I would try to not rip them as much as possible.

In regards to the thermal paste, I see that you also replaced that and after doing a lot of research, I decided I'd change the paste at the SOC as well, many guides dont even show that but ive found some videos that show how to do it, Ifixit for instance dont show that part, here is a picture of what I mean, btw, im planing on using MX4 on all 3 places.

There was a lot of tongue-in-cheek in my write up. The process is not that bad. The good thing is you will be practicing removal on a screen you don’t want to keep and putting a new screen in is hardly that scary. I used MX3 on all the 2 chip spots. A little dab goes a long way. Seriously. I finally used a .5mm thermal pad for the shield/heat-pipe connection because once you remove your heat shield…you’ll do it again and again and again. Replacing paste gets old.. Also that copper colored square is THIN! Go easy when wiping the old stuff off or you’ll poke a hole in it.

I won't be using pare

I won't be using pads as I'm not expecting to open the switch anytime soon after this project, and if i by any chance I do, I'll just repaste, not a big deal In the full picture.
BTW, I had bad luck with opening a screw on the side rail, I got my switch second hand and the screw came fucked I suppose, I tried unscrewing and it stripped pretty bad, I ordered a set of reverse bits to open it, wish me luck.

Get a set of JIS screwdrivers. Regular Phillips screwdrivers are built to “cam-out” to avoid over torquing screws. This strips the screw head. The screws in a Switch are Japanese standard and thus just slightly different. The extra bite will shock you and might even be able to remove your problematic screw.

What do you mean by the bite will shock me?
My problematic screw is stripped to the point where I have to her a rescue set(reverse drill bit).
I did order screw sets so the jis would be helpful as I read up on it and apperantely it's good for both Phillips and JIS screws, problem is I can't find them on Aliexpress, I think it's because their name might be the same.

when a screwdriver grips a screw it can be said that it “bites” the screw. Shock just means to surprise you, as if struck by lightening. Shocking!

I didn’t find them on AE either but this is the set I bought on Amazon.

If you need to stuff your cart and you‘re already going to have your switch open…

I don’t recommend it unless you’re experienced with a soldering iron. It’s easy to brick your switch messing with the internals…

You need dark green cartridge slot, If I remember correctly it affect touch screen function of the screen.
