Every part of the story files differs in length, and even then they differ in difficulty. Some or faster, others take a while.
I don't see why I should waste time with every single little new thing we translate.

Like I said only millions of times, when I feel that there is a need of updating, like there is something to show, I will do it.

What you gotta understand is, that the process of explaining something rather complex, consumes so much time, that in the end we lose more than we gain.
Also: While more people would speed things up, also quality would suffer. You know, too many cooks spoil the broth.

What? Unless every single member is working on it every minute of every hour for the entire day and not taking any breaks (Which no one does) thats a stupid excuse.

You know how long it takes to get on a forum and make a simple status update? Yeah me either, because its too low to bother counting.
Simple status update? You mean something like "We're somewhere between 50% to 100%, or less than 30% or perhaps 70% to 100% completed going on a rough estimate with 33% uncertainty"? A rough estimate is their best guess. You know why?

Because quantifying progress takes time.

Which is the entire basis of my argument here.

Sure, making a simple forum post takes a minute or two. Perhaps less. But guess, what, going through the entire translation data base to quantify progress, let alone estimate, takes a shit load of time. If all you want is an estimate, then you can expect a very rough, inaccurate estimate. In which case, what's the fucking point? To make yourself feel happy?

Allow me to crush your next point.

Naturally and intuitively, we can expect the translation team not to spend every single second of their day working on the translation project. That's a given, and pointing that out is asinine.

Further, asking the translation team to quantify progress to update the rest of the community is asking them to do something laborious. Naturally, I expect you have never undertaken a translation project and have no idea how laborious quantifying progress is. To be fair, I give you the benefit of the doubt.

Thing is, translation work is tough, boring and time consuming. Quantifying progress is similar. How do you accurately quantify progress, anyway? Going by the number of completed lines? Granted, all lines vary drastically in length so quantifying progress based on that would be inaccurate. Going by the number of letters? That's dumb and even more time consuming.

The whole basis of your argument is that it takes less than 5 minutes to make a forum post.

And right you are. You failed to take into consideration the time and effort taken to quantify progress however. A large mistake on your part.

Conclusion: You have not put a lot of thinking into your post. Given that you're a very new member and that asinine post of yours was likely your 5th ever, that is excusable. I hope you put in more effort into your posts in future. It reflects your character and your intelligence.

If you fail to accept your defeat, and wish to carry on arguing with me, be my guest. I'll be waiting. Make my day.

"We translated x lines of text today"

Even that would suffice as a status update.

I doubt anyone is expecting presise details on what has been translated, but no its not hard to give a generalization on what you've completed.

And what is the point of that? I bet you that there will still be people asking if it's done yet etc. And there will be n00bz giving shit when they don't translate xxx number of lines in yyy number of days. Heck, there would probably be even more.
tl;dr Unless there is something significant to post about, they won't need to update. Like I have told others before, come back in a year. If it's out, good. If not, repeat.

That sounds like a fantastic idea, until you realise how pointless and insensitive it is.

Would it please you for the translation team to post daily, saying "10 lines have been translated today"? What if they posted "0 lines translated today LOL"? Would it upset you?

They are working on this project on their free time. They report to no one, especially you.

Telling them to update everyone on progress daily is insensitive. They are doing everyone a favour. Don't shit on their flowers by demanding a fucking daily update.

Heck, I bet the entire translation team could throw their hands up in the air, say "fuck this" and stop the project dead in its tracks and there's nothing you can do.

They are already putting in a lot of effort into this project. You can do you part by shutting up and being quiet. Romsstar already mentioned he will post notable updates, meaning momentous progress.

So be patient. I was already very clear about this by saying "It's done when it's done". Now do your part and wait in silence, lest you be chastised by everyone again.

Don't be mad because i'm making sense and you aren't.

And i dont need to "wait in silence" since i don't come here often enough to care about what anyone says.

In what universe..... Nvm :\

What about this. They don't update cos they are dicks and want to troll all us fans (even if it's not true). Will that be easier accept?

Just keep this in mind. As long as (insert suggestion here. In your case, update pref daily) does not bring about any significant benefit (with priority to them over us), then said suggestion would not need to be carried out unless the team decides to do so. Nuff said.

I don't think thats the reason, it would be easier to troll by posting fake updates.

Good then let me make one thing clear: No one on the team cares whether you are satisfied and get any status updates or not.

We don't have to answer to you or anyone else. Everything what has been said by ZAFDeltaForce is 100% true and we think exactly this way.

I told already often enough, it comes when it comes. And even the assumption that we work every day on this is stretching it way too far.

We work on it when we can spare the time. Everyone has their real lifes and our biggest goal in life is definitely not this.

Everyone is making sense here, but acting like a brat is another story. If you don't care about what people have to say, then shut up and ignore them. It's as simple as that!!! Unless you really so care, hence why you replied.

Long-story-short, GTFO or STFU.

Would you rather they spend most of their time translating and occasionally updating, or spend most of their time posting updates every time they translate a word or sentence, making the process so slow that it is unbearable???

Yup, that's totally true. After all, the universe, multiverse and time as we know it revolves around you.

Also, I totally agree that I didn't make any sense at all with my posts. Why? Because you said so. Ergo, I'm wrong and you're right. That's first class logic right there folks.

In light with the new information and argument that Tylerrr posted, I hereby withdraw my argument and stand corrected.

... All this being true in your world.

I never said they should post update everytime they translate a word or sentance, do you not know how to read?

You guys seem to think its some impossible task for someone to sit down and estimate how much work they've done during the course of the day. That is a simple thing compared to translating languages, but you're saying it's somehow beyond the capabilities of the people working on this project?

The point is not whether they are capable of updating more often or not. It's whether they feel like it. Simple as that. You can write a 100000 thesis on why they can or should and what not but that will not change a thing. Like I said before, even if they are trolling, we can't give them shit since we are not doing a better job than these guys. And as someone else pointed out earlier, updating more frequently will lead to n00bz expecting a proper schedule for translation which is nonexistent. And tell me what the benefit is for updating more often? If that can make the translation easier or convince Namco Bandai to localise this, then fine. But it doesn't. :\

To be fair, I think we're all being a little harsh here, especially to a really fresh guy. Allow me to apologise for my over-aggressive stance, but pardon me and listen, you'll find out why:

I don't mean to pull rank or seniority, but I've been here a long time. I've witnessed the rise and fall of multiple translation projects, some dying dead in its tracks and others becoming huge successes (Jump Ultimate Stars, notably)

It is terribly infuriating on the side of the translation team when hype over a particular project overflows; everyone wants and demands updates, questioning the length of the project. This heavily pressures the translation team and one by one they drop out cause they can't take it anymore. Eventually, the project dies or gets stuck in limbo until another determined translator picks up where the old team left off. Sometimes the cycle repeats, and it's sad to see projects die, get revived and then die again.

Do you know how long the average translation project last? 2 years. If you're lucky. With a span of time like that, you'll start to realise coming back for daily updates is a waste of time. The project will crawl at 0.137% a day on average. In the end, what's the point right?

I think it's certain when I say I know my shit and you don't after spending the last 6 years here.

Also, I find it curious you didn't heed my warning when I told you that if you didn't stay silent, you'd be chastised by everyone again. But hey, we all learn from mistakes.

EDIT: Interestingly, I inadvertently answered your million dollar question. The daily update rate is 0.137% (I expect you know how to work basic math, but if you have problems with how I figured that number out, just ask), so take that as a reference and come back in 2 years. There will be progress.
