Yeah, but there already IS a power button on the 3DS, and I bet that it has the same purpose as the button on the DSi---to bring you back to the DSi menu (like you said), so the home button probably has some other thing it brings up...

I think they just took out the reset from the power button and put it on the home button.
Yeah, I think I heard before that because the reset function was part of the software, then if the DSi froze for some reason (although I've heard virtually no cases of that) you also wouldn't be able to turn the system off properly. With separate buttons it wouldn't be a problem.

I think this home button will probably open a menu where you can choose to return, rather than resetting, like the Wii goes to a menu before you choose to return to the main channel screen.

So theres nothing right now on the software that comes installed on the 3ds?
I am curious becuase i am wondering if the 3ds will be as powerful as i want it to be.
Also, anyone think there may be some apps for the 3ds? like a paint app, proper web browswer with flash support, and the ability to download files that arent relevent to the 3ds, but can be stored on the SD card for later use?

We don't know, nothing has been said.

Going by the DSi (which face it is a tester for this thing just minor the 3D and graphics) I say there will be channels like Internet, music, movies, Shop and Wii like channels. Probably something free like Flipbook but more advance maybe.

I can see the home button being just like the Wii one. Pause the game, go to options or just reset the handheld.

Yeah, I noticed, it seems we are getting an Wii-like home menu, who knows maybe multitasking or in-game pause.
Or a realtime save, it would be amazing if an in-game menu Ala SC DSTWO.
Real time save would be a feature of a game rather than the system itself as it would remove challenge for a vast number of titles. IMagine a game like Elite Beat Agents having real time save.
What if it is just like the pause feature on the psp go, and deletes the save once you start

IIRC, the max. size of normal DS games was 2 GB, too.
Nothing to get all fussed about, though the average 3DS game might very well be 256 - 512 MB.

IGN: Piracy is unfortunately enormous on the DS. I'm wondering what sort of measures you're applying to the 3DS that will prevent people from stealing games?

Konno: Unfortunately we can't talk about those details, but Nintendo takes piracy very seriously. And we'll enhance and improve all the protection we can. It's very important.

If you didn't know, Konno is the person at Nintendo charged with creating the 3DS.

Max size of ds games is 256mb(apart from 1 512mb japanese game)
2GB is a heck of a lot bigger especially as its just for launch(launch ds games were 64mb max, with most only being around 30)

maybe for playing media during gameplay? that would rock

Yeah, when I got my psp I was dissapointed it didn't have features like this.. I mean what's the point of a menu like that if all you can do is go back to the main screen?

Yeah, like Cyan said, this could be just like the PSP has, a small pause screen with a couple of options. And even if it was like the Wii's home button menu, how do you come to the conclusion it will use .ISOs?
huh.gif
IOSes are the way the Wii System menu is set out. If the 3DS is set out the same way it will be easily crackable, hence it is unlikely they will use them. Sorry aguyyyy.

I love how everyone here thinks cracking software is easy
smile.gif

Well cracking software is actually very easy. I hacked my wii and i use a flashcart for my DSi.

You don't understand :S...you're using things that were made by other people after months of hard hard work...

We all know how to use the tools that were made, we just don't know how to make the tools on average.

Well the chances for it having an actuall home screen are very likely. I mean they really already have a home but for it being like a wii are also very high
i mean they are having 3D pictures using the TWO cameras on the outside and a feature where you can communicate with people you walk by. So if you were in a subway and just happened to walk by you could set your ds to say "What's up" or "Hello!" then you could chat not even knowing where the person was (unless you looked for the guy with a 3DS in his hands. I know this is off topic but with a bunch of new features they would be more likely to have a home like the wii . Also did you here the graphics are a bit better than an actual wii?

If the bottom buttons are touch sensitive I wonder how easy it would be to touch them accidently when you''re holding the DS in one hand and using the stylus. Can't really picture how I hold my DSL off hand. Remember that I used to hold my Phat by the bottom-middle but then that was because there was a big-ass SuperCard SD sticking out the bottom that was good for holding onto.

I'd say it's like one of those bubble buttons, you know like on those cheap keyring tv remotes.

I believe (could be wrong), either Iwata or someone else mentioned the home button would do something... I really forget what they said it would do, it wasn't groundbreaking, but at the same time handy.
99% sure it was in one of the iwata askes or interviews on the e3 site.

Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.
