    I only found out about this yesterday.

    Wilddenim says that everyone should know but I think generally that it only applies to older people

    There's also "Dick" for Richard. I got whipped in elementary school one time for saying "Dick Tracey". That teacher was stupid.

    In girl's names I think "Peggy" is a short one for Margaret.

    Actually Bill is not the same as William. However people named William some times go by the name Bill as well. Same as those who have the name Robert also go by the name Bob. There are more examples but you get my point. They are not the same although 3 letters are the same in Bill and William. If they were the same you could spell William with just 4 letters.


    Maybe I am just nitpicking at the way the question was asked. *shrugs
