Hello everybody of GBATemp!
Here's a detailed tutorial on how modding GTA games on ps2 works.
(FIRST OF ALL, REMEMBER THIS!)
Don't edit .dat files.
From what I know, it wont work.
Tell me if it did for you.
And the script from the pc is nearly identical. So, I think you can replace it. Has to be same size or smaller.
(WHAT YOU NEED)
-PS2 with freemcboot or modchip
-USB Hard Drive (16+ recommended)
-Physical GTA DVD
-DVD Decrypter or imgburn
-IMG Tool
-Magic TXD (just Google search it and make sure it's from GTA forums.)
And last, Apache 3.0
Step 1: Getting your ISO.
Grab your GTA Disc, and pop it in your pc.
Open DVD Decrypter or IMGBurn, and rip your ISO.
Wait for it to complete.
Step 2: Open up Apache 3 and then open your newly ripped ISO.
You will see a bunch of files and folders.
Select the folder you want, then right click the file you wanna mod, then extract it somewhere.
(NOTE: USING PC CODE ON A PS2 GAME WILL CAUSE YIUR PS2 TO CRASH, BE CAREFUL!!!)
Step 3: Editing.
(If you extracted a .img file)
Open up IMGtool and open your .img file. Then select a txd. Easy.
Now that you have a txd (doesn't matter if you extracted it from .img file or from ISO directly.)
Then it's time to open up magicTXD.
Edit your picture, but be careful.
The file size NEEDS to be the same or smaller. If it's a little bit bigger than the original, it should be ok. It will most likely crash though.
Step 4: Replacing image file.
It's not as easy as it sounds.
Open your txd with magicTXD, then click on the image you want to replace, click on EDIT then click REPLACE.
Now, you will get a menu.
Keep the pallet the same as the original.
Make sure it also has the same level number.
Now replace.
(Make sure the txd/.img is the same size of the old one, or smaller.
Can't be any bigger like the other image.)
Step 5: Rebuilding.
(For IMGtool)
Select your old file, right click, then replace it with your new txd. Easy.
If you did that or are just changing a simple txd without a .img file, then go back to Apache, select your old file, and replace it with the new one.
(You'll get a menu, uncheck Update TOC.)
Once it's done replacing, it's time to test.
Put it on your hard drive the way you Put your Isos for OPL.
Then test.
IF IT WORKED, YOULL NOTICE!
If not, you'll get a black screen.
