We need to talk; this shit can't keep going on.

Liked the 1st series, seen some of the 2nd series and not really impressed, might get better though.

Now, I can appreciate cultural differences and all that jazz, but I have to draw a line in the sand here. You're wrong. You're all wrong. They're seasons. SEASONS. Series refers to the show as a whole.

Seriously, guys, I've had it up to here with your vocabulary shenanigans. Now I know how the Founding Fathers must have felt.

Come on, guys, you used to rule the world. Get your shit together here!

Love,
Freedom

Series refers to the set of episodes that were made as one continuous filming session. (so for instance Series 2 of Red Dwarf) Series also refers to the complete collection of episodes for a TV programme (for example The Television series Red Dwarf is a British sit-com set in space).

Honestly, if you can't tell the difference between series and series then we have a serious problem.

Just to confuse matters further
"I really liked that show" can mean I liked a whole series or you liked an individual episode. Worse is even with context "I really liked the show where they did a drive by on a space hopper" it is not obvious.

All this being said is it really fair to call a show that starts a series in September and may well, thanks to "we shall just take a couple of weeks off for fun" type arrangements, run until June a "season"? Even if we decide to be in the tropics that still just seems greedy.

Silly Americans, thinking you can tell us how to speak English. You left our country; you abandon your rights to our language.

Just don't forget, Doctor Who: series 1 = season 27. It actually makes a difference there.
Season 1 = 1963
Series 1 = 2005

Get it right, people.
