The right service goes a long way actually.

Plus many of the people asking for a PC version probably already have it on a console, they'd just prefer a PC version for obvious reasons.

While the right service might go a long way, the wrong service hardly makes "screw the developers, I'll pirate it instead" a valid alternative.

I can't think of any "obvious" reasons, actually. They're not going to improve the graphics and there was no slowdown or anything in the PS3 version, so there are no aesthetic reasons for the port. Plus it was built with a controller in mind, so keyboard+mouse won't allow for better controls. There isn't even any guarantee of better online capabilities since the game's multiplayer is limited on purpose by the concept. Basically, the PC version will be identical to the console version except for new areas and enemies (none of which people signed the petition for).

Have you actually played the PS3 or XBOX360 versions of Darksouls? The slowdown in some areas is near unplayable.

I have a copy on 360 and, in addition to loving the game and wanting more content, I want it on the PC specifically for the hope that they'll fix the slowdown issues.

Games for windows live sucks because people don't have the skills to work a computer in 2012.

Launch Batman Arkham City for the first time

Log in to Xbox Live account via Email and Check the box to auto Sign-in

Game updates and logs me in.

Next time I load the game, It brings me to the main menu and automatically logs me in.

Pretty simple.

Hmm, I doubt that's what people have problems with. People aren't that stupid.

It does. I spent THREE HOURS trying to get Age of Empires Online (a free Games for Windows Live game) to work. I've tried just about anything I could think of, but it still won't run.
What exactly are you having problems with? I've never had any problems with all the gfwl games I have (GTA IV, HALO 2, Dirt 2, AOE online, etc...). All these games just work for me. I want to know what all the fuss is about.
The product key is the main problem. The game is free, it should not need a product key in the first place. Completely pointless. I've tried opening the GFWL Marketplace program and looking under Downloads to find my key, but it wasn't listed there. The only advice I could find is to go to the Marketplace site and press the Buy button, but the button just isn't there. It appears for all other games, but not AoE. I tried with two Live accounts, one that I registered from scratch from within the game and one that I used to use for MSN and both had the exact same problem.

Aside from that its coming on the GFWL. Anyone that still intends to buy it even if it doesnt come out on steam? I would gladly buy it. Hopefully they add more tweaks like we can get better textures etc... And anyone other than me did the last boss on 1 try :P? I facerolled him. In fact the only boss i had problem soloing on my first gameplay was Ornstein and Smough. Died like 50 times before i was able to solo him with a zweihander(Yes that slow weapon in 2vs1 fight. Really bad idea!) The rest? You call that hard? Pfft! I had more problems getting to the boss than defeating them lol.

Of course I have. Do you really take me for an idiot who posts in threads about games they've never even played? The only area with slowdown is Blighttown and I don't see them working to fix that problem because, if they could, they would have just released a patch for the PS3/360 version to fix it. If you have any slowdown in any other areas, or actually think the slowdown in Blighttown makes it "near unplayable", then that is clearly your fault and not the fault of From Software. Millions of people have beaten the game, so...

Hmm where did you download it from? Steam or the Live marketplace? I downloaded it from steam and it worked no problem.

Steam... But this is getting kinda offtopic.

To be more ontopic: I never actually played Dark Souls. It looks pretty fun (though rage-inducing) and I might try it when I have more money for PS3 games. I won't get the PC version anyway because my PC can't even run Windows properly, let alone some huge game like Dark Souls. I have to say Steam is a very good servive, though, while my experiences with GFWL have been far less... pleasant.

After this reply, yes I do take you for an idiot.

The slowdown is VERY present in multiple areas including, but not limited to, blighttown, new londo ruins, the two hydra fights, the bridge with the dragon, etc.

Also, the fact that you think they can't fix slowdown if they didn't patch to fix it on the consoles is just ludicrous. Are you aware of the fact that a decent gaming pc is multiple times more powerful than the 360 or PS3, and thus can handle things that it can't?

I'm seriously beginning to think you're just posting to anger people...

Not at all. You claim to have serious slowdown problems in areas I've never had them and nobody I've ever spoken to or played with has ever had them. The only area I knew even had slowdown was Blighttown. And it doesn't actually matter if a PC is more powerful - it merely boils down to the fact that they could have fixed the problem in Blighttown for the PS3 and 360, but chose not to. Since this is going to be pretty much a straight port with added content and maybe higher resolution textures, expecting bug fixes for bugs that either weren't widespread (as in your problems with apparently two whole areas and three optional boss fights) or were never fixed on the original release (as in Blighttown) is pointless - especially since this port has only taken them a few months. The petition was first submitted on January 7th and the game will be out in August.

Of the six months they will have spent developing this port, how much of it do you think was spent on new content and how much do you think of it was spent fixing bugs?

The only problem with your logic is the fact that the slowdown in game wasn't caused by bugs, but by the the fact that the consoles don't have enough power to run those areas smoothly. Even if I give you the benefit of the doubt and say the slowdown was due to them optimizing it poorly, the computer will still fix that issue.

As far as the slowdown issues go, myself and three of my friends have the game (two of us on 360 and two on ps3) and have experienced slowdown issues. Also, the slowdowns were noted across the boards for both versions at gamefaqs.

If you claim to experience no slowdowns in those areas, you're a god damn liar! Period. You can't auto magic patch something that is the result of hardware, unless of course you want it to be like Tomb of Giants where you can't see jack. Of course, that isn't to say that it's "unplayable." I heard people bitch about Blighttown, it's not that big of a fucking deal, seriously.

I really wish it's not something dumb like being capped at 30 fps and I'm hoping for high res textures, but if they are saying 1:1, that's out the window. The GFWL isn't a deal breaker. I've never had any issues with it.

Kinda reminds me how I struggled to get Civilization V to work on Steam last year. After countless attempts, nothing I've tried worked. Then suddenly, one day, it worked. I never really figured out why

The thing is, every content delivery service has it's kinks, some more than their competitors (I'm looking at you, Origin.). I'd prefer to stick to one content delivery service though, having my games scattered among three services gets quite annoying, and it's cumbersome to figure out which game is on which service once you've spent some $1000 in games distributed among the three services.

That's just me though

Big deal. So you cant buy through steam. At least you can get it at all on PC. One store is the same as another. (Goes back to playing PS3 version.)

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
