Hum... I was just checking and Blazblue for PC is also only for GFWL and not even availiable on steam, didn't know that. =3
I'll be buying the game anyway, although I'm pretty sure the game will be availiable for purchase on Steam from what I was checking, although I'll never really understand why people prefer to buy big games like Skyrim, Amalur and etc by Steam seeing as I only really use it for small games and prefer to own physical media.

Still tho, since it'll be using GFWL I'm assuming it'll have compability with the 360 online. =O
Oh, and I really don't think this is about Microsoft doing exclusivity for this game with GFWL, seeing as all Fable games are availiable on Steam, Microsoft loses nothing as long as people buy the game, no matter where it is.

Some comments are really funny, like for example the "i will pirate unless this or that...". We all know that this is just your excuse, you will pirate it anyway. Let us be honest here, if you don't like a game, why play it? And if you like a game, have fun with it for many hours without paying a cent to the ones who made it, you are a thief of their labour, plain and simple... No amount of lame excuses like "it was on GFWL" will alter this simple truth.

Now on the topic itself, i believe that Dark Souls will be a commercial failure for PC. I find it amusing that the incompetent staff at Namco believe that by listening to silly petitions like that means "they care about their fanbase". Japanese developers in general do not know what "listening to their fanbase" really means. They follow a simple formula "if something sells, milk it to the death while investing on it as less as possible". That is why even japanese developers think their games are garbage today...

It takes little intelligence to figure out that the persons that signed this petition are almost certain owners of the console version of the game, or at least the majority of them. People that are interested in JRPGs and japanese gaming in general are never exclusive PC gamers by definition. People that get out of their way to support a certain game almost always have played it. And even if they don't have the console version, then their opinions are even more worthless: It is easy for someone to say they want something to be available, since they are not binded to that opinion, they are not risking any money or anything... This doesn't mean they will buy the thing, they simply want to have the option to buy it...

Since fans of its genre probably already bought it, then Namco will have to target PC gamers who have no interest in console gaming, and we all know that they face strong competition there. From games like Skyrim for example. So they will not have the sales the believe they will have, unless they make this port something really special and not a typical sloppy console port.

And if this game is a failure, then PC gaming will take another hit, since they will blame piracy again and will stop porting games again... But we all know the reason PC gaming is dead isn't because of piracy, but because on a PC they can't sell dumped down games for an arm and a leg... PC gamers tend to be more capable of understanding when a game is a rip-off and that is a big no-no for publishers like Namco... Do you believe that a game like Ridge Racer on PS Vita could be sold for that price on a PC? Think again...

Already having the PS3 version I wouldn't buy this, but then again.. It's not like there are that many options on the console side? It's either PSN or XBL. Depending on console.

So far I haven't seen many who actually buy a game they have on their console for PC. Steam isn't that amazing (it's good though, don't get me wrong) that it would warrant me to buy another copy for the full price. Regardless of what people think about piracy and it's effect on PC gaming, you can't deny it has some kind of effect. Far too easy to pirate, and apparently legal services "are all trash if it's not Steam". It's not like Steam was the shit when it was first launched. Actually no service was..

And suddenly i'm not so interested in the game anymore, and its not the being gfwl part of it so much as the not being on steam and not being susceptible to random epic sales which helps increase the userbase.

But then again why do I care, I haven't been on steam in months

Um, no, that's not case.

If you read previous posts, they say things like "Dark Souls is like 75% less fun without online". Pirated versions rarely have online. They would gladly buy the game because they enjoy the online (I'm pretty sure a few of the people, like @[member='Hells Malice'], already have a purchased copy of the console versions), but a service like GFWL really hampers that aspect.

So it's not just "an excuse to pirate", it's basically the fact that GFWL is so bad that people would rather have no online then the terrible online on GFWL.

GFWL is not that annoying, I at least have never had real problems with it. It will most likely still be on steam, will still use steam achievements and the only thing you need to do is have a windows live account and well login with that automatically when the game starts. Never had any real issues with that personally.

BTW the overdependence on steam must stop as the only thing you would achieve with that is a monopoly for valve and a valve who is not really putting much effort in improving steam even if they are not that bad as a company a monopoly makes you lazy which has been proven time and time again. Even now I see barely any upgrades to steam itself while the program is running far from ideal with pages loading quite slowly, group chat not working perfectly. The prices on other places can be quite a bit lower than those on steam and almost always are when there is no sale on steam so I rather buy where it is the cheapest.

Actually, it clearly is an excuse to pirate the game. Otherwise people might say they'd still buy the game, since they asked for it and the developers clearly put effort into fulfilling that request, but play a pirated version because the publisher screwed up by picking the wrong distribution service.

I fucking hate GFWL and I hope it dies in agony and hatred.
I can't even fucking register because my country isn't supported by GFWL. Not to mention play the game properly.

Also, I won't buy any game that supports this piece of shit DRM.

I personally think the reason why they used GFWL is because the network architecture of it is very similar to the architecture of the 360 which means they have to spend less effort on getting the netcode to work.

The right service goes a long way actually.

Plus many of the people asking for a PC version probably already have it on a console, they'd just prefer a PC version for obvious reasons.

While the right service might go a long way, the wrong service hardly makes "screw the developers, I'll pirate it instead" a valid alternative.

I can't think of any "obvious" reasons, actually. They're not going to improve the graphics and there was no slowdown or anything in the PS3 version, so there are no aesthetic reasons for the port. Plus it was built with a controller in mind, so keyboard+mouse won't allow for better controls. There isn't even any guarantee of better online capabilities since the game's multiplayer is limited on purpose by the concept. Basically, the PC version will be identical to the console version except for new areas and enemies (none of which people signed the petition for).

And that is the point. The target group of the game already owns a console and probably already owns the game too. In this economy no one buys the same game 2 times, just because it is on a different platform. Plus, when the PC version will be out, the console version will be cheaper in case someone has to choose between them... Gamers that don't like console gaming aren't likely to buy this game on PC anyway.

So, speaking from past experience i believe this game will be a commercial failure. And Namco will blame it on piracy instead of blaming themselves. It is a usual tactic lately...

And ultimately that is the reason PC gaming is dead(regarding AAA exclusive titles and multiplatform support). Most recent console ports flopped on PC because of similar reasons and yet piracy took the blame. PC gamers don't help with their attitude either(instead of voting with their dollars to support companies friendly to their platform they sign petitions for another lame console port they don't intend to buy anyway...)

It does. I spent THREE HOURS trying to get Age of Empires Online (a free Games for Windows Live game) to work. I've tried just about anything I could think of, but it still won't run.

What exactly are you having problems with? I've never had any problems with all the gfwl games I have (GTA IV, HALO 2, Dirt 2, AOE online, etc...). All these games just work for me. I want to know what all the fuss is about.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.
