The DARKCORP lite Package contains the common.key.bin, which means its illegal.
Not completely related, but I still don't get why the MakeKeyBin program is allowed while the common-key.bin isn't...
All it does is paste the key in a bin file (after it does some calculations with the number you enter)

Also, for anyone who wants to join the IRC channel, use port 5190, aka #darkcorp

The common key isn't illegal at all, from what I've read. The taboo against posting it is mere convention at this point.

I don't see how that changes stuff actually...
People also share the common key, but it's only "illegal" in bin form ???
No. The idea was having input from the user means it's legal. And that's true, but I don't think the common key is illegal anyway, just a precaution.

lol, having user input doesn't make it legal at all
But it's legal to share anyway (team twiizers already shared in on the very first day wii softmodding began

Actually it does. The fact that it's generated based on the user means it's not dependent on the program to provide the key. If you were to type 45f instead of 45e into MakeKeyBin, it would generate the incorrect key.

actually gameking its irrelevant, cause its legal, and plus the way you describe it, i can make a program generate wii iso links with user input. Since its generated based on the user, if you type the wrong thing you wouldn't get any iso links, fully legal

lol

It would be legal... you're feeding it information and it's outputting based on an algorithm. It's only illegal if the links are stored in the program, instead of being generated.

So is common key legal?
I dont have the right to create an array like
u8 commonkey[16] = { 0xeb, 0xe4, 0x2a, 0x22, 0x5e, 0x85, 0x93, 0xe4, 0x48, 0xd9, 0xc5, 0x45, 0x73, 0x81, 0xaa, 0xf7 };
on my progs ? XD
I dont get it ._.

I don't seem to have a problem with it.

AFAIK, it isn't illegal, as it is just a sequence of bytes typed in a hex editor then saved as a file.

ebe42a225e8593e448d9c57381aaf7
save as "common-key.bin"
Done.

...see? it's fine.

And AFAIK, every single homebrew app which deals with encrypting/decrypting, such as disc readers/loaders, wad managing stuff, and even downloading and installing from NUS needs this key hardcoded into the app so that it can decrypt and install the channel or decrypt and run the game.

Without it, these programs can't do squat!

...so, does anybody have anything to say about DARKCORP itself? (instead of going off-topic)?
Does it work for you?
Are there any games you couldn't play before but can now?
Anyone got any test results?
...anyone got the game Rugby League 3?
I may have a possible fix, but I don't have this game to test...

All the programs you mentioned don't need the common key.
- Disc Readers/Loaders only need the key to decrypt the disc. They can use DI to do this for them.
- Wad managers install already encrypted content, they don't need to decrypt it.
- NUS content is also encrypted and can be installed directly. The key is only needed if you decrypt/modify/re-encrypt, and it's possible to do this without the key if you get ES to do it for you.
- Launchers don't need a key to run the game, again the wii will take care of everything.

...forgot about those.

But then why do so many apps have it hardcoded then?

...but I don't think this has anything to do with it being legal/illegal.

/off-topic... hopefully... better be...
Anyone want to talk about DARKCORP itself, or is everybody just going to whinge about this and that and blahblahbah?

hmmm sry to bug u guys but i cant seemt install it. it keeps giving me this ES_Identify error.
Strange...
When exactly does it happen?
As soon as you start the program?

QUOTE(gamefreak94 @ Apr 3 2010, 04:03 PM) what if we're using rev19?
You mean you don't want to overwrite it, right?

Install hermes' cIOS222 (base 38) if you don't already have cIOS222 installed, and then run the DARKCORP installer, and select:

(Uses IOS222) Install/Upgrade to DARKCORP v1.0 (regular mode)

And it should work fine for you, without messing with cIOS249.
