Hacking D2pro upgrade to 4.0?

Hi guys could you tell me if it is safe to upgrade to 4.0
i am currently running 3.4 with a d2pro chip i am not particuarly interested in homebrew channel as every game runs fine with the chip so i dont have any hacks installed at all.
will the upgrade affect anything to do with my chip or the saves i have.
