Current version of YSmenu works with the R4
ohmy.gif

To make it work:
1. grab YSmenu http://home.usay.jp/pc/etc/nds/YSMenu0805222222.zip
2. extract it to the root of your microSD card
3. grab the DSTT firmware http://www.pspmyspace.com/techstuffs/files/dstt_v1.1.zip
4. extract it to the root of your microSD card
5. run ttextract.exe, that will generate ttpatch.dat, ttdldi.dat, r4patch.dat
6. rename YSmenu.nds to default.nds, so that it starts automatically
7. edit the YSmenu.ini to use the english language
8. boot DS with the microSD in your R4
9. ????
10. Profit!

I've had success loading commercial NDS rom dumps from YSmenu, and GBA dumps too (with my 3in1), but not homebrew yet, as there's no r4dldi.dat

update:
the YSmenu.nds is dldi patched for the DSTT by default, so if you dldi patch it to R4DS, then encrypt it with r4crypt, you can use it as your _DS_MENU.DAT instead of having it start as a default.nds

Tried it, works great. Thanks for the info. The Cheat works better too.

Glad it worked for you,
imo it's much better than the official R4 firmware, and I can't wait until yasu releasesa proper R4 version of his menu, with dldi support for homebrew

Mmmm... I did just as you wrote, but I got no "r4patch.dat". Is there anything else needed to make this work? Now I'm really curious

Well, I had the following files on my memory card before I ran ttextract.exe:

_DS_MENU.DAT (from r4 firmware)
TTMENU.DAT (from tt firmware)
YSMENU.NDS (from ys menu)
ttextract.exe

then when I ran ttextract.exe, it generated TTPATCH.DAT, TTDLDI.DAT, R4PATCH.DAT

I then encrypted YSMENU.NDS into a _DS_MENU.DAT file using r4crypt, so that the R4 would boot it in place of the R4 menu.

edit:

uploaded the files from my memory card, to make this a bit easier to use. the files in this zip replace your existing _DS_MENU.DAT with YSmenu, so back up your old files first!

edit://

removed link to files because of this - http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=78705

Oh, I didn't have the _DS_MENU.DAT file on my microSD card. That must have been the source of the problem. Thanks a bunch ^^

PS: Nah, no good. Still no r4patch.dat. Well, nevermind... I just got my CycloDS Evolution today ^^

the nice thing about custom firmware would be that the gui could be changed, at least I think so.
Yeah that would be the only reason why I would like a custom firmware. Gotta love custom GUIs' ;D

Yasu needs to hurry up...
Anyway, I think that that the R4 team is either:
1. Really the M3 team, but now that they have another two firmwares to update they've given up on the R4/M3
2. The R4 team has given up.
3. The R4 team is working on a really good update, maybe a whole new firmware.

to 1.: 80% Yes, 20% No, because there would be many employeers ...
to 2.: 99% Yes, they are just stupid -.- ...
to 3.: If this is really so, then I'm the Queen of GB ... (Of course this means 100% NO ...)

Could you please re-up the link? It seems to be dead

Thanks!

I fear it will not be possible since only the code that runs on the DS is updatable on the R4 and linkage fixing requires an update to the code running on the card itself.
