Try these custom AR cards below. Just reply if it is working or not.

Print it in A4 size in portrait orientation without fitting picture to frame.

I really liked Doraemon. It'll be really awesome if these actually work.

The 3DS isn't magic. It can't render a 3D image from a 2d picture. It's either the camera sees data that the human eye can't see (which is possible, I think. My camera can see the LEDs in a Wii Sensor Bar, for example) or the 3DS can actually see the card, process it for what it is and where it is and render an image (from memory) accordingly.

i think it works by face recognition, kind of like how the camera recognizes eyes, nose, and mouth just enough to make a mii

oh i get it, some one photoshopped this by taking the official cards and adding the Doraemon pictures on top.

I've downloaded from the Nintendo 3DS Japanese support website and edited the AR cards.

And also, there are more custom AR cards by clicking on the link in my signature.

It's not a code in IR or "invisible" ink, it's the latter. The 3DS recognizes the image on the cards it "knows" and runs the related piece of code: a 3D figure or a minigame or whatever action is associated with that particular card.

Since it was edited straight from the Nintendo web, who knows whether it will not work?

They won't work. The 3DS doesn't have the models for those characters. And it won't recognize them in the first place.

Hmm - but what if the 3DS gets 'updates' via it's WiFi that imports new models
OR what if the Model info is stored on the game cartridge ??

If you have the Game & you get the AR card - you then get a 'bonus' of a virtual Model on your 3DS

My vote is either for facial recognition, or as somebody else said something the camera picks up that we can't. To give an example, there's lenses for cameras you can get to make them look through people's clothing, but I'm not giving any links because it's obviously NSFW...

That would allow another card(s) to do another thing(s). Still doesn't allow custom cards since Nintendo won't provide models based on whatever characters you want.

They might show the normal AR Games, but they obviously won't show the pictures on the cards.

Some 3DS games (like Nintendogs) has been confirmed to make use of the AR cards. Nintendogs puts your cute puppy on the cards.

The ? Block cards shows them normally.
The Mario card has them wear a Toad/Mario hat.
The Link card has the pup wear Link's hat and hair.

And so on and so forth.
