that's a really interesting theory... the original DS has two locking mechanisms, wonder how much money nintendo saved be shaving one part off the list???

Hey guys,
I'm starting to believe that it's not the locking hinge because the locking hinge seems to be located on the RIGHT side, not the left.

And pictures of the disassembled DS Lite shows that the locking mechanism is on the right.

Also, if you listen to your DS Lite when clicking it open, you can hear it coming from the right only.

So I dunno what to think now....

maybe thats why, its made to only lock on the right, so the left isnt made to do that... (its just the plastic clicking, theres no mechinism)
Just a idea...

Maybe the locking mechanism also strengthens the plastic, hence this not happening on the phat DS's becuase it was on both sides?...

And I remember reading the first topic about this and thinking, good thing mines not cracked while I was playing it, and then i started to look at it, and then slowly close it, then out of nowhere the crack showed up! Crap!

That's possible also. Like, the left side isn't supported enough or something, or whatever there is too tight.

Man... I am so paranoid now. I haven't touched my DS Lite for 2 days..... =(

I've been playing my DS since I've found its been cracked. I don't really see how it can get THAT much worse, but having it cracked still sucks. If yours isn't cracked yet, then open it to play it, but just never close it. Or only close it when you have to.

I don't know if I want Nintendo to recall these or not. I mean, It'd be sweet for everyone to get new DS's, but then the companys also looking at a large loss number and we don't want that to happen.

Wow, isn't that kinda ironic? I download roms but I don't want nintendo to lose money?

I believe this crack cause by the metal ring (use to pass flex cable for top screen and use as a hinge) that tie fit into upper plastic molding, and temperature cause thermal stress that virtuly break the plastic apart.

You guys know what's going to happen right? Chinese people is going to start making cheapass 3rd party replacement cases on eBay and slap on "OEM, Original DS Lite cases" as their listing title.

And as usual, they make big bucks off of counterfiet crap that breaks.

I would be funny to see their stuff stands up better than the real DS Lite cases though.

Mine is starting to crack, I wonder if there is something that can be done to prevent it from going all the way. Its just a hair line at the moment, no even all the way across.

For those that had given me a response, thanks very much! Everyone is kept strictly anonymous.

Also, for those that gave me a response, but no photo yet, and if you would like, please send me a photo, and I can add it to your response. I know whose and whose response myself.
