Like I said earlier... I would, but the monthly payments really throw me off.

Well, for 20$ you can get Half-Life 2 (an AMAZING game) bundled with counter-strike source. There is no monthly fee.

But addressing your original question, CS is the only game franchise that I have consistently played all my life, and you should definitely get source. Personally I like 1.6 better, but for a new player source is definitely the way to go. And two amazing games for 20$, its hard to get such a good product for the price (except for flashcarts lol).

1.6 is, I think, 10.

Yeah, there is a patch for NoSteam to play on cracked servers.

Well, the no-steam scene is pretty crappy now, as there are relatively few cracked servers unless you live in China. It kind of resurged when TF2 came out, but sadly now the scene is kind of static... I remember the good ol' days when you could use SteamRip to play all source games online!

lol. Anyways, if you just want to play with bots, you can just install steam and create a blank account, and then patch your steam client with the UnDead patch (PM me if you want it), and then you can download most hl1 and hl2 games with it. CSS has built in bots, and you can either download Condition Zero or install zbots to get the bot experience on cs 1.6.

Another good online shooter thats free is americas army. You can download it for free at thier website. I think its fun as its more realistic, plus the ragdolls are funny.

Ill let you guys know if I figured it out this afternoon, after my download finishes.

By the way, space is not an issue for me. I just bought an external hard drive with 250 GBs. So... Im set for a while.

its only 1.7gb.. thats with all the source engine GCF's.

yeah, Source is the newer version. updated engine and physics, better graphics (but still not good tbh).
for a new player, source is better. but for skilled players, they all prefer 1.6.

also, source is a very heavily cpu based game. P4's don't cope very well with the source engine.. they never have done. you'll ceraintly be able to play it but don't expect huge framerates and maxed out graphics.

let us know how it goes;D

Yeah, you might struggle running source with low ram and if your graphics card isn't great. 1.6 is hardcore, since most people nowadays get CS Source and are casual gamers.

If you are getting a nonsteam version of Counter-Strike Source make sure you patch it if necessary.
