Why you plug it in the first place if it not rechargeable lol, you either get rechargable battery like this or the rechargable battery pack that Microsoft sell.

there's a little battery indentation in the battery compartment that's for the rechargeable battery pack, so in all likelihood, it wouldn't hurt the batteries, because they wouldn't be powered by that part.
