Short version: I can't connect to the internet with my Wii, Wii U, and 3DS, I keep getting Error 52231 on Wii and Error 003-2102 on 3DS.

    Long version:

I had a DSL connection and I been using my Wii since 2008, 3DS since 2011, and Wii U since 2013 and they always worked fine online via wifi.

A few months ago we moved to a new house and in this area the phone cables are very old and broken so the internet connection is pretty much dead, we switched to another internet company that uses purely wifi (phone card) and now internet works fine on most of my devices, PC, laptop, phone, ipad, PS3 and PS4, only problem is I can't get it to work with my Wii, Wii U, and 3DS, the irony is I can get it to work with the DS lite just fine.

I changed the security level and am using WEB now which I believe is recommended for using with the Wii but it's still not working, I been contacting the company since day one and they don't have any idea how to fix it, on the 3DS I get connection between the device and the router correct but it gives me an error message when between the router and the internet, what should I do?

I been searching for a solution, then I came across this https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/browse/productDetailColorSizePicker.jsp?productId=prod10279 I may not be able to get the official one by Nintendo so can I use a third party PC one instead? But then this won't help solve my problem with the 3DS...

I know for sure that third party ethernet-to-USB adapters work just fine. As for the 3DS, you might need to look at some of your router settings.
I had an issue on my 3DS where I couldn't connect to the internet, until I looked at my router's wi-fi settings and changed the 802.11 mode to use "802.11b"
This is the setting I used which worked:

Don't know if this'll help, but have a look and see if you can find something similar.

So can I get a regular PC one and use it? I asked the guy at the store and he said it may require you to install a certain software so it may not work on the Wii U, that's why I didn't buy it, can you confirm if a regular PC LAN to USB cable would work on the Wii U?

That's interesting, do you mean the error is related to the IP address? Do I change it on the 3DS wifi settings or the router's wifi settings?

I can't personally confirm if a regular USB Ethernet adapter works, but a quick Google search says there's people that have had success with it. I'm gonna get a cheap one off AliExpress when I can.

I don't mean your 3DS IP address, it's a setting in the router that decides what 802.11 mode to use, because the 3DS requires 802.11g or 802.11b and won't work if your router isn't using either one of those at least. It should be possible to use all three at the same time but it might depend from router to router.

Do you know what does that do exactly? I didn't know this was a thing.

This encourages me to give it a try, it would save me some trouble if that worked.

Where do I find these settings? I'd like to give it a try, I'd contact the company and see what they have to say about this but I highly doubt they'd even attempt to do anything about it.

You mean "Network key 1"? Cause that's the one I been using, I set it to WEP and made the password the same for all Network keys and am using the first one anyway.

I'd need to know what router you have, it's very different from router to router.

It should support the wireless protocol needed. Using a computer try connecting to the router, usually 192.168.0.1 but it might be different. If you're on Windows you can open CMD and type "ipconfig /all" to find information about your network devices. Look for a line containing "default gateway" - that's what you wanna open in your browser to access your router.

I did the cmd thingie and here's the results:

I already knew about the Default Gateway address, that's how I changed the security to WEP but I was wondering under which category should I find the place to change the 802.11 stuff that you mentioned before?

That's the thing, I can't really be sure since I don't know what your router settings look like, sorry. Can't find much on the internet either.

That's okay, at least I now have an idea of what to say when I contact the company again for this problem, I'll try to contact them this weekend and see what happens.

WEP security and Key 1 is a known nintendo limitation since the days of original DS

I already changed them all to WEP since day one, I know all about this issue, the funny thing is the Nintendo DS is the ONLY Nintendo console I have that connects with this connection. Anyway, I got some new updates to the matter, I mostly have bad news though...

@Ridge So I went to the main building earlier today and contacted the guys, showed them the info I was told here hoping that they may find a solution, instead the minute the customer helper saw these numbers she shat her pants and ran to the big guy telling him that she doesn't understand anything of this and that she wants him to take care of it, this only scared him that I know more than they thought I did so he came clean.

He said that this issue is known for months and that they have no solution for it, it happens with all Nintendo products (not true, the regular DS works fine, apparently) and that they have no plans on fixing it despite all the reports because they think it's not important and as long computers and phones work then they did their part fine.

Then he said that this issue is only with their company and that the other companies don't have it and that they're not responsible for the fact they sold me the 2 years subscription and told me it'll work with all my consoles.

Then he said these guys (at the stores) don't know anything about this, all they know is how to sell and that even if they tried to explain this to them they will not understand and will still call it "all consoles" of course translation is "Screw you, we got your money now, bitch, now go fuck yourself".

Finally he told me that if I want to try a last try, by paying a little extra I can ask for yet another service (yet the scamming continues) called "Static IP Address" where I can connect the consoles that have issues directly to that IP instead, what do you guys think, should I do it?

As for the LAN Adapter, I tried buying one of the expensive third party PC ones and it did not work, I'm on my way to return it for now, it seems I have no choice but to keep paying for both intent companies and keep the slow broken connection for the Wii U and 3DS, either that or I can always order online an official LAN adapter.

static IP will not help your situation.

try another router and make sure you can return if it doesnt work
