Yes, it plays backups in .3ds format. It only plays official 3DS cartridge backups, not eShop games or mods.

Most people, including me, would recommend modding your 3DS firmware via this guide to play games without a flashcart.

Interesting, looks like there's been a ton of activity since I last looked at flashcards, so what does this new bootmii style hack allow exactly? does it allow playing backups direct from the menu without the need for a flashcard? hmmm...

There's no BootMii, just something called Arm9LoaderHax. What it does in a nutshell is to load a specific file that is located on the SD, and that file is tipically a CFW (Custom Firmware). What you have to do is to install .cia packages (the games) with a .cia installer like FBI and voilá, no need for flashcarts.

And asking again: Why buying an Sky3DS and not a bigger SD?

Uhmm i'm stuck on what to do. If it helps I have x2 DS Two (original) flash cards if they help with anything. What must I purchase to follow on the downgrade method?

On 1st option, you need soldering equipment.

On 2nd option, you need a second 3DS with CFW to do a System Transfer (DSiWareHax).

In either case, use this guide. Those DSTwo flashcart won't help.

Doing the DSIwareHax method, I must also get hold of either Fieldrunners, Legends of Exidia or Guitar Rock Tour as-well?

Preferally Fieldrunners, but you need the ORIGINAL game (the game must be on the 3DS with CFW), which you have to spend some $$$.

Ahh i'm guessing all 3 of those games are digital only downloads through eshop, i'll try get onto this during the week then, thanks for the heads up guys!

Remember: Buy the game on the 3DS that already has CFW. You can borrow a friend's 3DS for that, if you have any.

@The Real Jdbye, I thought about that and I have blank DVD's and Blurays but honestly after like 90 songs I just listen to it a couple of hundred times toss it out and burn something else or have like 2-3 CD's. Florida here the heat in the car tends to ruin the CD's after like a few months even commercial pressed ones don't last too long.
