Is there any specific naming and file layout for ISOs? eg. \ISO\ID_Title.iso
I'll give it a try tonight.
.iso is not supported yet.
In previous post I was just talking about sparse file support.
For the moment i think i'll just use same convention as .wbfs files, that is:
/wbfs/gameid.iso
or /wbfs/gameid_title/gameid.iso
I might change that in the future but for now I'll just go with this as it takes the minimum amount of changes.

OK. Sorry, I was jumping the gun a bit.

I'll test the .wbfs on NTFS tonight anyway.

Cheers.

MAC will only read NTFS, they will not write to it so this feature would not be much use to anyone using a MAC.
"out of the box" the mac will mount ntfs read-only.

NTFS-3G is free and open source, tuxera also offer commercial ntfs and exFat drivers for mac, as do paragon. All enable writing to ntfs under osx. All are stable too.

I do agree that FAT32 is the better choice for most non windows users though (and even for windows users).
I agree about non-Windows users, since they don't really have great drivers for it. But for Windows users, seriously? The 4GB filesize limit in FAT32 is quickly becoming more and more constraining, with dual-layer DVD images and HD movies becoming commonplace.

Speaking of filesizes, will NTFS support mean that even large games such as SSBB won't need split?

I think Oggzee will write .iso support soon. That would mean you won't need to split the file up on NTFS, yes. About NTFS vs. FAT32: The new module is written so that other filesystems can be added easiliy. If somebody for example writes an ext2 libary for homebrew, it would take 1-2 days to add ext2 loading.

Correct, files on NTFS don't need to be split, be it either .wbfs or .iso.

Sweet, I will have to start checking out this loader... NTFS support would be amazing

Completely irrelevant to the wii. The amount of wii games that are larger than 4gb can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

Nice one Skizzo, it would have been nicer if you contributed and possibly gave me an answer to my problem with Jump Start Pet Rescue USA.
oh, were you only asking him, not everyone? continue to ignore my answer, then.

sorry if this has been answered already, but I read that ntfs does not support writing to the HD, but only reading (making ripping wii games to ntfs impossible @ the moment). Is this something that can/will be fixed eventually? Or is this some other kind of limitation that is unlikely to be fixed in the future?

lmao

+1

usually i dont post pointless msg's but thats funny shit!

For anyone trying out ntfs suport.. at the moment games larger than 2gb won't start, because of a stupid bug of mine, but will be fixed soon.
Install on ntfs might be a possibility in the future, it mostly depends on the libntfs stability, at the moment it's disabled and i could enable it for testing but first let me make starting games working correctly

No I wasn't asking just him.

Sorry I didn't see your answer.

QUOTE(OncleJulien @ Dec 12 2009, 10:18 PM)
the only way to get jump start running is to get a save file from someone who has the actual disc, but even then, it crashes randomly.

should I use cIOS 249 r15 instead of r14?
any other cIOS?

only 4 of the 8 games will run off SD card. They run fine from disc thru drivekey, but on the loader it says that 2 are not valid wii games and 2 lock up on a white screen.
Ive tried numerous combinations of settings with no success.

4.2 NTSC (simplistic mod last week)
cIOS 249 r14
Cfg USB 50a WBFS file system

BTW Yes I am a Noob at USB loading and I would like to thank everyone involved for such a great program!

Sorry if this was answered already but I´ve searched around and couldn´t find an answer yet. I've got Resident Evil Archives: Zero (Wii version) a few days ago and just can't load it with Configurable USB Loader.

Already tried 002 fix, blocking IOS reload, cIOS 249, 222, 223 and all the combination in betweeen, nothing works.

The games loads fine, the safety strap screen from NIntendo shows up and then it loads that screen with the Mansion background and the message "This game contains scenes of explicit violence and gore" and then just freezes.

If I don't plugin the classic controller or the nunchuck, after the safety strap screen a black screen with a message to attach either one is shown. When I attach the nunchuck (or the classic controller) it loads the Mansion screen with the message about violence/gore and freezes.

Already tried 2 different ISO dumps so I dont think they are the problem.

I have my Wii softmodded with Wanin's 249 rev 14, Hermes' 202, 222 and 223 v4, and Config. USB Loader v49.

Any ideas? Does this game need some alt.dol tricks to work or requires a special cIOS ?
Not sure if anyone replied, but I can verify that the game works on CFG 49-fat with no settings set and using hermes 222-mload R4 due to me using fat32.

update:
Just tried it on 50a as well and still working.

Hey man, thanks for the info. What system menu are you using? 4.1 ? I've been trying every trick I have on my sleeve and I'm starting to think the problem is related to my Wii being stuck at v3.3.

Anyone with more experience could shed a light on the subject, please ?

Dr. Clipper, will you update your "GAF's Wii Homebrew Tutorial" to include NTFS support?
biggrin.gif
I will when it supports installing of games. NTFS support is currently almost useless to the non-pirate, so there is no need for it in the tutorial.

cfg v50b (beta)

cfg50b-fat.dol
cfg50b.dol
(or online update)
Changes:

cfg v50b (beta)

* .iso files on NTFS support
The file name layout is the same as for .wbfs files:
/wbfs/gameid.iso or /wbfs/gameid_title/gameid.iso
* Fixes and cleanups for NTFS support (fixed ntfs getf -1 error)
* option: partition=ntfs1 accepted

About NTFS support:

FAT support in ehcmodule has been rewritten with a new
generic wii disc emulation system that is:
- light weight / zero overhead
- filesystem independent
- fileformat independent
It works by supplying the ehcmodule with a list of sector fragments
that specify the location of data using direct sector addressing.
To see the list of fragments one can use debug=1 and they will
be printed out before starting the game.
The number of fragments if limited to 5000, that number is also
the max theoretical number of fragments on a wbfs partition (actually
4600, for a dual layer disc with a 2mb wbfs block size). In normal
conditions the number of fragments should be a lot lower most commonly
just a single big block. Fragments are used to describe both physical
address on hdd and virtual adress on wii disc so if a .wbfs file is used
the list will be composed of 3 fragments - disc header, update partition
and game partition.
libntfs however doesn't seem stable enough for write access at the moment,
so the ntfs partition is mounted read-only meaning install and remove can't
be done from inside the loader for now.

Credits: WiiPower for libntfs modification which returns the list of fragments.

cfg v50a (alpha)

* Fix for PeppaPig (from NeoGamma by WiiPower)
* Fixes and cleanups for NTFS

cfg v50x (experimental)

* Rewritten FAT support in ehcmodule with a generic system
* NTFS support
* Improved gui speed with large number of games
(most noticable in grid, flow and flow-z gui styles)
* Print on the intro screen if the ios is reloaded a second time
(in case the setting from config.txt is different from default)
* The -fat version 'simple' option does not change 'hide_hddinfo'
* Changed WBFS ERROR: read error while installing a game to a WARNING.
Note: the read error check has been introduced in v47, all previous
versions including the original loader 1.5 and all other loaders
silently ignore it.
* Changed default value of install_partition=only_game
To avoid errors caused by modchips when trying to copy the update partition.
* Minor cosmetic changes to cover download when trying different urls.
