Thanks I read that but
Q: Can it play .iso files directly?
A:
NTFS: Yes.

But then here http://gwht.wikidot.com/usb-loader
It says it must
Your Wii games need to be installed to either a FAT partition or a WBFS partition on the drive. Most external drives come formatted as FAT32 and do not need to be reformatted for use with the loader. If you use a FAT partition, you can still use the drive for other non-Wii related storage. If you wish to format a drive to FAT, this tool is suggested (Windows only). GParted can also be used.

Currently my external HD is NTFS so I was wondering if I had to format it to FAT or not

you can use NTFS just like a FAT partition the only thing is, NTFS in not as stable as FAT

games larger than 4GB will be split in several files depending on your choice 2GB or 4GB if your using a FAT partition

i think whats confusing you is that the guide doesnt mention NTFS much if any and needs updating i think

Thanks. So basically I'm ok with NTFS.....and then I don't really have to worry about being over 4gb or not.

One last thing...the Configurable USB Loader defaults to WBFS drives according to the Wiki. I downloaded the fat.dol. What would I use if I keep my drive NTFS?

So basically I got the loader in the homebrew channel, I got a iso file on my computer......do I simply move that iso file to my external HD, plug that into the Wii, and load the loader and I'm ready to go or is there something else I need to do? Do I need to mess around with WBFS

This is a dumb question

Can I use 2 partitions at once onone list? Like 1 fat for wbfs and another one for isos?

Yup but you have to choose partition if you want ntfs as it defaults to wbfs, well mine does.

I got 3 Partitions

First Fat for covers and apps, partition 2 is wbfs and 3 is ntfs

There is one other huge difference between NTFS and FAT, being that you can't install games from a DVD to an NTFS partition.

That's why my guide doesn't mention NTFS as a suitable format for preparing your drive. It's virtually useless for non-pirates, which is the demographic my guide is targeted at. The day it gets stable write support, I'll add NTFS as a suitable option to the tutorial.

No. You can switch between partitions in the global options menu whenever you like (give that action to a button if you want to access it faster), but there is no way to combine multiple partitions into one big list.

If want i can try adding the new Wiird engine to your loader. Just give me some source and 1-2 days time.
That would be awesome

!

Btw, the latest Source of CFG-Loader should be here. Though I guess it's not realy up-to-date...but enough to work with

yeah should of mentioned the write issues as well but im a WBFS guy until i get round to repartitioning my HDD then i would personally use FAT over NTFS

using option ios 222-mload or ios 224-mload results in "wii exception dsi occurred" stack dump, blah, blah etc. ?
Reverting back to ios 249 and usb loader boots up fine again.
Happened after i installed the latest v53a and Hermes v5 (222, 223, 224 and 202).

same thing happened to me:
52 with 222-mload and Hermes 222 v5 was stable
updated to 53a and got the crash right after cfg-loader bootscreen

reverting to 52

and - i love the loader

Would somebody with the error please post the DSI Stack Dump section so that the bug can be found?
Í'm a week out of the country, so i can't access my Wii, before next sunday, if it's not posted by then i will post it here.

using fat32 for my apps, covers, etc, and NTFS for my .wbfs files, not had a single problem. I don't understand why everyone recommends fat32 over NTFS

as Dr Clipper previously mentioned ^^

so the only way to get games to a NTFS partition is if you pirated them then transferred them to the HDD using a Manager as there is no other way you could of got the game to the HDD with a NTFS partition, unless you had then on FAT first but still doesnt explain getting future game on the NTFS without downloading the games first

Having a small (about 10GB) FAT32 partition to install games to and then move them to NTFS? Is this another way? I think so.
Many people (like the one you quoted) use FAT32 for homebrew and NTFS for games. Not everyone who uses NTFS is a pirate.
I understood that Dr. Clippes guide only talks about FAT because it's a guide for noobs that use an usb loader for the first time. But everyone with a little bit of brain wouldn't re-rip his games if he can just copy them form one drive to the new one (and you can do this with FAT and NTFS).
So please stop arguing that NTFS is just for pirates, that's just bullshit.
"There is no other way" LOL

you forgot to bold the "unless you had them on FAT first"

that comment was a typical flame from the mouse without fully reading the post, seriouly its only the real pirates that bite first lol but still it was only an opinion so no off topic flame wars please

I was gonna try to get a screenshot of the DSI Stack Dump as I was getting that error just a couple days ago, but it seems now that I've switched from using a WBFS partition to a FAT32 partition, the error doesn't happen any more. I figured it was related to using the -fat loader, but switching back, it still works fine.
