Well shit in my cereal, it bloody worked. The jig seems to not work with this method, but using some wire I got it to work from a restart. Thanks
I know this was a good joke platform for some, but I was seriously concerning having a mariko unit. So thanks for clearing that up with the more serious comments @jjbredesen and @TiMeBoMb4u2, appreciate it.

No problem. I'm still betting it was a ground issue, since RCM is dumb—in the sense of: It requires a specific set of circumstances to activate. If those circumstances aren't happening it doesn't happen.

Yeah they are a hit and miss sometimes. Its usually due to not having proper contact with the pins. Bending them like a little hill helps them connect

Agreed. Most of the "My Switch won't enter into RCM" issues are due to improper grounding. Making fine adjustments to my jig was a necessity.
These didn't work, without putting a small hump near the end of the wire.

that fat-finger part made me laugh

...how do you hold your stuff when you enter rcm?

I press vol+ with my right thumb and power with my left index finger. I'd need 3 hands to take a picture of it, but it's not as weird as it sounds.

...do you really need to hold both...?

I'm 90% sure my fingers aren't fat. not sure about thumbs though :P

O_O ok, lets do this:

Support for the upgraded SoC (T214) was not implemented before 5.0.0, in other words Mariko units would not even function on lower FW, you do not have a Mariko unit end of discussion.

Mariko Units will also have RCM, they just can't use payloads because the bootrom bug that allows us exploit RCM will be patched. RCM itself is a intended future.

So you are simply not grounding pin 10 or failing to execute the combination.
idk, I would imagine Nintendo would probably just not expose the magic home button to the joycon rail just to be safe, I doubt they would want another bug to turn up and kill of the markio consoles too without at least making it require the console to be opened which would scare off many newbies

Without pin 10 you can't use the home button in handheld mode :O RCM will not go anywhere, RCM is basically the same as fastboot in Android, it is a required feature for servicing, so I doubt they will get rid of it tbh, as long as the bug is fixed RCM is no security threat.

Would it be possible for them to remove the Tegra “home button” from pin 10 and use a different line from cpu? I’m not well versed in the switch hardware, but I wonder if when they start shipping mariko units they might, on top of having fixed the exploit, not boot to RCM via the joycon rail.

I see no reason why they could not, but I highly doubt they would go through the trouble, they made it easy by choice.

I was uner the assumption pin 10 wasn't actually used by the system and was just left there as a sort of hidden recovery mode for in house diagnostics/repair method, I feel like I read that, but if not, wouldn't the people with hardware modded joycons have a broken home button if pin10 actually was used for the proper system home button in handheld mode....idk though I haven't look too much into the details

yeah but its like leaving your key under a rock outside your house, once a burglar breaks into your house using it I think you would reassess if the convenience is worth the potential risk

I guess it just depends on how confident they are that they patched up all the potential holes, I could imagine them trying to at least find a way to make entering RCM mode trickier

I've tried using the power off option, and also long pressing the power button to hard shutdown just to be sure. How could my 10 to ground not work? Would it be the rail, or the unit itself?

This happened to me when i had a paperclip 3d printed jig i made that eventually went bad. Its certainly the connections here because it will always work when they touch proper. If it instantly turns on that means your comnection is definitely not there. I suggest just snip and bend a paperclip into the jig and that will solve your problems. It worked for me ^-^
