Ok so I'm probably doing something wrong, but I can't get my switch into rcm mode.

I've used wire to connect pin 10 (furthest from front of switch) to ground and I've also used a jig, on the right rail as well.
I check the contact each time to make sure they aren't damaged and that the connection is indeed being made.
I hold down volume + (and have confirmed that my vol+ button is not faulty), press power and attempt to hold both for 3 seconds before letting go.
Problem is that the moment I hit the power button, or connect via usb (which turns it on) the thing hits me with the nintendo logo and boots like normal.

Now my concern is, have nintendo pushed out mariko already? I am not on the latest firmware but I figure this wouldn't matter much to nintendo, and maybe they intentionally start to override old production lines with the new unit without bothering to change anything else on said lines (like isue all factories to flash latest firm).

Figure they might do this to catch people off guard so everyone buys up consoles now, finds it on lower firm and thinks they are in the clear from getting a potential mariko unit, but surprise surprise that's exactly what they get. I mean Nintendo and Nvidia were made aware of this flaw before anyone else was, so it's possible that new stock sit at older firmwares but with new hardware right?

I know removing one of the chips inside can force rcm mode, but I don't intend on ripping this thing open, at least not until we see an actual release later this year.

Also I'm on 3.0.2 if that matters much, which being it's above 3.0.0 but below 4.1.0 I'm not sure if it does. (most guides are for < 3.0.0 or > 4.0.0)
This was a recent purchase and was shipped from a distribution centre rather than packed from the stock in my local store (I ordered for collection)

Is this possible at all, or am I just being a paranoid noob who can't even use an rcm jig? (I'd solder the pins but I need a new iron and I'd prefer not to anyway)

how high are you and how long ago did you buy your switch

Try shorting the pins and hold vol + while doing a restart

If you are on 3.x there is no way you have a newer build

I'd say if you can verify your Power Button and Volume + are working correctly, and you are 100% sure your Switch is OFF, prior to attempting RCM, then your Pin 10-to-GND is not working properly.

EDIT: Wanted to put emphasis on the "OFF" statement above. IIRC, RCM will not trigger when coming out of Sleep Mode.

I've tried using the power off option, and also long pressing the power button to hard shutdown just to be sure. How could my 10 to ground not work? Would it be the rail, or the unit itself?

Oh shit, you must of updated to mariko. When you boot up your switch do you see the nintendo logo before the joycon animation thing or vice versa?

You must be high if you think a software update can update hardware

The way to boot RCM shouldn't have changed between hardware revisions, only the exploit should be gone.
I also had no luck with a selfmade jig so I soldered two pins inside my right joycon together and now it works reliably.

One thing that helped me when booting into rcm was pressing down on the jig making sure it’s definitely hitting the pins, then pressing power and volume up at the same time also it’s nice to have windows device manager running so as soon as you do it it’ll pop up on there.

If you are unaware there is no sign you’re on rcm it won’t light up the screen or anything

What GND are you using?

Pin 1 mostly, also tried with a screw on the rail.

Yeah I know, thanks though. That's why seeing the logo every time I try tells me I've not done it.

Also my rail still works with the joycon, detects it as docked and charges it properly. So don't have those issues that some people reported which is associated with a damaged/faulty rail.

O_O ok, lets do this:

Support for the upgraded SoC (T214) was not implemented before 5.0.0, in other words Mariko units would not even function on lower FW, you do not have a Mariko unit end of discussion.

Mariko Units will also have RCM, they just can't use payloads because the bootrom bug that allows us exploit RCM will be patched. RCM itself is a intended future.

So you are simply not grounding pin 10 or failing to execute the combination.

All jokes aside did you try my original suggestion

Well shit in my cereal, it bloody worked. The jig seems to not work with this method, but using some wire I got it to work from a restart. Thanks

I know this was a good joke platform for some, but I was seriously concerning having a mariko unit. So thanks for clearing that up with the more serious comments @Ronhero ,@jjbredesen and @TiMeBoMb4u2, appreciate it.

Yeah they are a hit and miss sometimes. Its usually due to not having proper contact with the pins. Bending them like a little hill helps them connect

Hhg, They've gotten to you too man? That's too bad, look outside the roses once in a while man you'll see not all the glitters is gold. The government WANTS you to think you cannot update software with hardware they WANT you to think that way all you're doing man is playing right into their game man. Do you think the Switch NEEDS to be plugged into an electrical socket? When leaked CIA documents proved the Nintendo Switch could run entirely on water and be totally free if it weren't for fat cats keeping me down? Wake up man, wake up.

clearly this man needs a psychiatrist.

I've actually had this happen to me a number of times as well. I just kept trying and soon it worked.

Try a fat paper clip. Little to no bending or precision required. Bend one end ever so slightly up.

Not "straighten the clip into a line". Just take one end and bend it upwards slightly so it can press against the rail pins. Then jam it down, and do the thing.

edit: just saw the problem was already solved.
