I bought a Wi2hdmi adapter which gave screen message " no signal ". So I bought a av to hdmi black box ( MINI) this worked but it didn't look HD. So I bought an Easycel component to hdmi converter all I get is vertical colour bands on the screen? Any advice?

Wii only outputs 480p. It'll never 'look HD' from one of these adapters. Is your av to hdmi adapter composite (yellow red white) or component (red green blue red white)? If it's component, that's probably 480p and your performance ceiling.

The Av adapter that worked is yrw I looked on Google they said better quality could be obtained with component so I got the cable and converter but all I got was the bands?

Post pictures of your adapters.

Things to consider:

1- Wii outputs 480p in Progressive Mode. It's higher than 480i.

2- Most TVs won't/can't upscale 480p anymore. Most TVs today won't even bother to upscale 480p to whatever you're using.

3- Your TV must have Component inputs (Green, Blue and Red) in order to use Component cables. This method is the best your Wii will ever look. The picture quality will depend on your TV's upscaler. IT'S A TV ISSUE.

4- If you want to "make it look HD" use a FullHD TV or a 1080p TV/Monitor. Beyond that and you'll get a "not HD picture" because of the built-in upscalers. And use Component, any kind of converters/adapters will inevitably add noise to the picture quality.
