Okay so I have a standard TV and an HDTV, and the component cable works.. but when I change it to 16:9 the picture looks like squished 4:3 instead.

Now, my TV can do 16:9 formatted to fix the problem, but is there a way to get rid of this anamorphic widescreen and make it do proper widescreen?

So is it possible I purchased a bad component cable or are they all anamorphic widescreen?

I would play on m composite cable but my tv has this up-scaling thing that makes hdmi and component connections look much nicer.. so it'd be great if I could fix the squished issue outside of my tv settings.

Also another reason is cause when I load usb loader GX, I turn on widescreen fix and it fixes the buttons but the wiimote hand cursor looks really stretch out, since it's aspect ratio doesn't change and I have to use my tv settings for 16:9.

Make sure you set your Wii AND your TV accordingly.
Component cables to NOT handle any ratio, you need to set your tv manually.

The Wii can only do up to 480p, it does widescreen by taking a 820x480 image and squishing it to 640x480. Its up to the tv to strech it out to 16:9.

Aw how unfortunate, but at least I know it isn't an actual issue now, thanks.

But then how do I fix the stretched cursor in usb loader gx?

I fixed it.. I just decided to edit the hand cursor myself and make it look squished in 4:3, that way it stretches to normal in 16:9 lol

Unfortunately you must adjust your TV settings based on the game being played.

On the Wii, both 480p and widescreen support were optional. Nintendo didn't require developers to use them.
Usb loader GX can set this option on a per game basis.

Well I was more thinking about the lack of Wii-side ability to format 4:3 games so they'd look right on a TV set to 16:9.

Super Smash Bros Brawl did that for its Masterpiece mode. Compare with Virtual Console or anything Gamecube.
