So I've got a jailbroken and unlocked iPhone 3GS on 3.1.3. I don't know which jailbreak and unlock tools were used on it.

I want to upgrade the iOS only to 4.1 and keep whatever baseband it has currently. So my questions are:

1) Can I update only the iOS to official 4.1 and keep the current unlocked baseband? If I can, what's the procedure? Or do I have to jailbreak 4.1 in order for the unlock to work?
2) If I have to jailbreak, I'm thinking of using Sn0wbreeze in Baseband Preservation mode. This should work, right?
3) Can I use the latest version of Sn0wbreeze to jailbreak 4.1? Or should I use only Sn0wbreeze 2.1?

P.S. This is my boss's iPhone so I'm being extra careful to make sure nothing goes wrong!

[*]No. You must restore to a custom IPSW to keep the baseband.[*]Baseband Preservation Mode will not jailbreak the iPhone. Simple or Expert Mode will jailbreak your iPhone, and preserve the older baseband. (I don't even think Baseband Preservation Mode is in sn0wbreeze 2.1.)[*]You must use sn0wbreeze 2.1. Newer versions of sn0wbreeze drop support for older versions of iOS.

Awesome, thanks for answering.

If Baseband Preservation Mode doesn't jailbreak, what's it for?

Baseband Preservation Mode is for people that don't want a jailbreak, yet they don't want their baseband updated.

iOS 4.2.8/4.3.3 has been released. According to comex, 4.2.8 and 4.3.3 are still susceptible to feedface and i0n1c's exploit, respectively. Expect new version of PwnageTool, redsn0w, and sn0wbreeze in the near future.

You're welcome!

The guide has been updated for the new versions of PwnageTool, redsn0w, and sn0wbreeze, which support iOS 4.3.3.

Is there a jailbreak for iPad2?
(Google usually has fake stuff)

Saddly, at this period in time, there isn't a jailbreak out.

But rest assured since it IS being worked on.

I just updated the guide to support the iPad 2... iOS 4.3 Build 8F305 on the Apple TV 2G (the new version released today). Tools that currently support jailbreaking this firmware are PwnageTool (after adding a new firmware bundle) and sn0wbreeze.

For the curious, i0n1c's untether lives on.

All versions of iTunes work with jailbroken devices. However, older jailbreak programs (e.g.- limera1n) don't work if you have a newer version of iTunes.

I've been thinking of buying a a ipod/iphone/ipad. Which would be the best one to get for using Cydia on?

Personally, I prefer using Cydia on my iPad more than on my iPod touches.

Keep in mind that the iPad 2 can't get Cydia yet. All other iOS-based devices can, though.

iPod and iPhone are fully hackable.
iPad 2 is not hackable yet.

Don't get the device based on what's best for cydia. If you need an mp3 player you're better with an iPod. If you've got enough money for it and need a new phone then an iPhone is the best. If you've got both those things and want a web browser with good apps then an iPad is best.

My friend has a jailbroken ipod touch 1st gen. He wants to rip music of this device. What apps does he need? I tried to rip via windows(yeah it helped out server all times on old ipods)

But what tools do I need?

Hello all, seeking a bit of help/info. Hope someone will be kind enough to help me out.
I have a iPod Touch (8gb) that I would like to jailbreak. (It's actually for a friend...)
It has 4.3.2 firmware.
What can I use to jailbreak this iPod? Program names/locations would be great, as it's a pain to find crap online about jailbreaking... (for me)
I've looked everywhere for the files that guides are requiring. 50% were pay sites and the rest were fake or contained very useless information.

I jailbroke a iPod Touch with greenpois0n, I think it was 4.2.1 firmware. So I know a little bit about what I have to do- but since then, I've lost my programs for jailbreaking. (Bad reformat... O_o)
Anywho, will someone please point me in the correct direction to get this jailbreak over with?

Need:
Either a decent guide or directions.
Proper, working, download locations for suggestions.
...and to know if I can jailbreak this iPod Touch 8gb (4.3.2) simply.

If you have to PM me links or info, please do. Replying here would help also.

Thank you.
