Yeah sure, what do you have to lose. But this time, try jailbreaking with Limera1n. And if that fails too, try going to 4.0 and using Star (since you said you had SHSH blobs for that firmware). But something tells me it's not the jailbreak, but something with your iPod... A restore usually wipes out everything.
I actually got it working now! *Knock on wood* Cydia loads up fine now! But it seems to have something to download about every other time I open up Cydia...or something. Idk what happened...I just restored to 4.1 and tried jailbreaking with greenp0sion again and it did the trick...I resprung and the icons showed with their colors and all is well, for now.

Thanks for all the help

...hopefully I won't need it again! Not that I don't appreciate it!

Glad to see that you fixed it

Most of the downloads in Cydia are updates to essential stuff that Cydia needs to function properly. You should always download them.

Mhmm, I figured those updates were needed since they activate by themselves...but is it normal for it to "auto-update/download" then reload...often? I think so, right? o.O

redsn0w 0.9.7b5 was going to be available for Windows as well, but it's "excruciatingly slow" so it wasn't released.

Oh that's what you meant. Cydia isn't downloading packages when it's doing that, but updating its list of packages. By doing so, Cydia makes browsing and searching faster and more efficient. The things that get added to the list can be seen in the changes tab. Cydia always asks for your permission when installing something.
It also updates its list almost everytime you open it (unless unless very little time passed since you last opened Cydia), so it is normal that it often reloads data and downloads stuff often.

What do you mean terribly slow? Does it slow the iPod or the computer when you JB?

No one knows it's just what the dev team says

There is actually a Windows version of beta5, but it’s excruciatingly slow compared to the Mac version because it’s forced to use files on your hard drive instead of RAM while it’s processing the very large IPSW images. It really is very very painfully slow, so we probably won’t be releasing it for testing purposes unless it can be sped up somehow.

Processing the ispw is slow, and it's already slow to begin with.

Oh I didn't read that

Anyway posixninja says the hes going to release the next greenpois0n once it's untethered, whether that will be soon or not I don't know

Ah, this guide worked great. I guess it helps that I have an Ipod Touch 2G. One of the easier to jailbreak iOS devices IMO. Thanks for the wonderful guide.

I have on problem

when jailbreaking a friends 2g mb model on redsn0w rc8, every time it start the process the screen goes White, flashes black then goes White again, then when redsn0w says that the rest will happen on the iPod the screen just goes black and after 10 mins (give or take) it turns Off not jailbroken. Has anyone come across this before? I googled but found nothing

I just updated my iPad to 4.2.1 and jailbroke it with redsn0w (tethered). The first time I pressed just boot tethered, everything went fine, but when I tried a day later, redsn0w would do its job and my iPad would get the pineapple logo, but that's it. I just freezes and won't boot. Anyone have any ideas, or do I have to restore?

Edit: I finally restored and rejailbroke. I think that happened because of something that I installed (I installed a lot of tweaks....)

Lol, this fails XD
I was jb'ing my ipt 4g on 4.2.1 fw with redsn0w.
I was at the part for dfu mode.. I enabled dfu, then he did some stuff.
Now my iPod says downloading jb data...
But, redsn0w crashed XD
And I guess it's stuck now lol.

XD

Edit: My iPod just booted up. Everything was fine, no jb though.
Tried to jb for the second time. Everything went well this time. Thanks

Hello,
Total Apple n00b here... I'm good at softmoding wii and all, so I'm not a total n00b in installing stuff... but anyway... I never owned an Apple product.

So I will be buying very soon an iPad. And of course I want to "Jailbreak" it so that I can install games and apps for free.

I have a PC, no Wireless internet. What are my options for Jailbreaking the iPad?

When I'll buy the iPad, what Firmware will it be? Should I update it to latest firmware fully before doing any of the jailbreak stuff? which method should I do that is mentionned on the first page? Redsnow, green stuff, spirit whatever... I really dunno...

I just want to install games and apps for free on it, and mostly never have to use friggin' iTune which I think became worst than the old Realplayer.

Thanks!

Firstly. If you buy it NOW. It will have iOS 4.2.1.
Which is jailbreakable via redsn0w (for Mac & PC).
The current iPad can ALWAYS be jailbroken due to there being bootrom exploit.

But one question, why get an iPad if you don't have wireless internet?

Will it be a 3G one?

Thanks!

I dont really plan on using it for web browser... I have a PC with 25inch wide screen monitor for that... it'll mostly be games, movies and books...

So Redsnow, and I shouldnt need to update it? Anything I should know that maybe isnt writen in the Redsnow tutorial?

You can update, sine there will always be a tethered jailbreak.

Um....Something you should note is on Redsn0w for PC it sometimes hangs on "Waiting for reboot"
But you just gotta unplug and re-plug till it works.
