I've first activated the phone with AT&T's SIM card. Then I did the jailbreak with redsn0w (not sure if it hacktivated since the phone was already activated). Will it be ok to now unlock with redsn0w? Or might it brick?

unlikely it will brick. just double check your baseband and see if its unlockable with ultrasn0w

I was in the exact same situation as you (aside from the carrier) and didn't get a brick. You shouldn't get one either.

it is a known bug at the moment (the unlocks fault) so there isn't a fix yet.

For 4.2.1, you can use redsn0w for a tethered jailbreak. Just keep in mind that using redsn0w to jailbreak will also result in an upgraded baseband.

That's actually a rumor... We can't be sure if that's actually going to happen.

From my sources.

Comex's exploit/untetherness will be downloadable via cydia, and then you respring.

But I can and probably am wrong. But if it happens, you know who called it first.

quick question, i have a 2g 16gig ipod touch. right now its on fw 3.1.2 n used blackra1n to jb. want to update to 4.1 but i dont want to add all music/videos back. can i Shift+update to select fw 4.1(will this work n keep my music/videos) or do i need to do shift+restore fw 4.1(i know this will erase everything on it)

Back it up with iTunes.
Update. (Using the iTunes update button)
Restore to previous backup.
Jailbreak with redsn0w.
