Regular haxchi, the gamepad boot menu, and coldboot. Or take advantage of the boot1 exploit.
Yeah but he refused Haxchi. Gamepad sounds nice but it enables Standby. Boot1 exploit still isn't available afaik.

If he doesn't want haxchi I guess I could help him with browserhax coldboot, standby isn't really a problem. Boot1 exploit isn't *publicly* available, yeah. I don't know what else is possible, he'll probably need haxchi if we wants to have a good coldboot experience.

The only known guys to have boot1 exploit are that one twitter guy and Team Salt.
But yeah, I guess, help him with browserhax cb because that's the only thing that's left. (besides Wii U Gamepad Boot menu) You're more experienced in this type of stuff than me :P

the config.txt tells haxchi which file to boot. the fw.img could be iosuhax cfw or iosuhax redNAND. there's no way to tell afaik.

@coon-strudel Sorry i'm late, what you have their will autoboot the hbl.
No worries. Hmmm, this is just a curious question, but what if I changed the path to this? (The txt isn't the original, this was made from scratch, and does not effect anything)

uhm, a and default would accomplish the exact same thing. But for coldboot cfw set default to fw.img, a to homebrew and b to sysmenu.

oooh, because they both direct to booting up the fw.img file? and alrighty I'll set them to what you stated

Yay! what would the next step be?
thing is, to start a coldboot you'll have to download a haxchi compatible app, I promise you, you will not brick. Do you have a discord, we can easily text chat on that instead of spamming the forum with this thread.

Oh, yes, I'm sorry. Here you go: Winters#4893

Actually you can use Saviine even without an IOSU exploit... you'll probably mean SaveMii
And mocha makes them usable
So there isn't really a reason for using fw.img
Yes, I did. Thank you for the correction.
Yes, you can use mocha without fw.img and mocha can be used to use SaveMii and the FTP SpeedUp.

However, I was giving OP the path for using what OP mentioned: fw.img. Whether OP wants to change to Mocha or Haxchi is up to OP. I am simply giving them a way to use what they asked about.

I'm new here so please don't rip my arms off.

So, I recently got a Wii U, and.. kinda go CFW installed.
By that, I mean installing Mocha, then hating moving onto FW.img, then onto another fw.img file which is called iosuhax.
I'm pleased with it, as it lets me do most of the stuff I need to do.
But it's tedious loading into it all the time.

So I'd like to know how to coldboot the Wii U into loading into the fw.img located on the HBL.
All I can find are Haxchi tutorials and stuff.
I don't want to install any of the other stuff for.. reasons.

So I'd greatly appreciate any help.
Well, all of the coldboot stuff uses system.xml modifications.
Only CBHC does it for you automatically, so it's far more safe than doing it manually.

As for which CFW to use and such, I wouldn't recommend fw.img, it's not needed anymore at this point and it only adds complexity to the hack that can cause more issues.
Haxchi CFW is the easiest to set up, you do need a legit DS game though, but you need that to coldboot anyway.

After getting Haxchi CFW to work from a cold boot, overwriting it with CBHC should be safe.
But to be sure, never install any type of Haxchi to a non-legit DS game, it has to be a legit game you own, and it has to be on NAND, that's why most guides tell you to disconnect the USB before installing Haxchi.

The guide I usually recommend is this one: https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-noob-guide-to-wii-u-hacking.466006/
If you are worried about bricks I suggest sticking to regular Haxchi and not using CBHC. It only takes a couple of seconds to load Haxchi from the quick boot menu anyway. And that way there is literally no way to brick unless you install system titles with WUPInstaller or you mess with Sys Config Tool.
I only use regular Haxchi myself, I don't mind taking the extra 2 seconds to boot it from the quick start menu just for some peace of mind.
Anyway, if you need more help, you already have my Skype :)
