Speaking of overly sweet overly milky coffee, I tried to emulate a Vietnamese style drink, which is a short, intense, strong coffee made with a dark roasted robusta (brewed with a phin but I approximated), with sweetened condensed milk, at a 1:1 ratio. Usually it is then shaken with a ton of ice and served with even more ice, but sometimes they just drink it as-is so I tried it as-is and let me tell you that is insane.

Delicious insanity.
That is crazy lol. I don't think anyone actually does this. Most places should be closer to 1:2.
The coffee itself is usually brewed at 1:10.

A fine, mid roasted natural (arabica preferred) bean. Smoothly grinded and tightly packed into the moka pot taken to a mild boil. Very slow extraction at lower temps avoiding burning the beans more than they already are and cutting the boil fast to avoid overheating and diluting.

That's how I make my coffee most days, by hand. I am told by my guests they have never ever tasted coffee alike.

Got some extra dark roasted monsooned Malabar to try. It's positively grimdark, and the roaster is proud of it.

Mmmm, yes, edgy. Just the way I like my coffee.

Anyway, it's too dark for espresso or moka, Aeropress can get something drinkable out of it (with milk), maybe pourover would be even better but who has the time to dabble?

Anyway, the roast overpowers the aroma by a lot, would not recommend.

"So dark, you'll need a flashlight to see it."

Now, that sounds like my kinda coffee. Hot damn!

"A" as in "one"? thosearerookienumbers.brush
I would have to go to rehab to bring my consumption down to just one per day

Berings is a local Texas chain--in fact, there's only two of them. They're kind of a high-end general store, with a gigantic coffee bar in the front. I thought since it's such a Houston-specific thing, and they're pretty beloved, that their coffee that everyone hypes would be great.

Of course, it was all a colossal failure. I ordered a latte, which the barista overpulled the shot by at least 20 seconds. Which, whatever, we all have off days. But the coffee beans, which this total chump promised were JUST IN, and super duper deluxe fresh, were perhaps the slimiest, greasiest, stalest coffee beans I've seen. I could find fresher coffee by getting used grinds out of a dumpster that hasn't been cleaned since 1974.

Oh well, win some, lose some. I'll be getting a light roast at a farmer's market soon, cuz I'm curious, and I'd like to try pourover for the heck of it.

I'm shocked that the largest majority in the poll uses milk in their coffee. ISH! Cream/creamer is fine, but straight up milk? It creates such a weird flavor profile to me, I just can't.

Current favorite coffee: Peet's - Major Dickason's Blend

It's the new thing, get with the times Chary :tpi:

Anyone try cold brew coffee with a dark ale (like Guinness)?

I think I had one by accident. I quit alcohol about 12 years ago and recently went to a beer garden, to meet friends. I ordered this, but without beer. I think they forgot and gave me beer anyway. It was delicious and I won’t be having another one. Lol

I take my regular coffee many ways. Sometimes with heavy cream and real sugar. Mostly black. If I’m feeling fancy, I’ll have a French vanilla creamer. Whiskey is also great with black coffee, but like I said, I quit alcohol many years ago.
