Ok, I'm still not sure why that syscall was being ignored but I've recently been informed that even IF I DID get it to run, that syscall doesn't return until decryption has finished (which I guess makes sense) so by that time it would be too late to perform the race attack to get the other cores unlocked.

That does NOT mean that all is lost, however. It just means that I will need to use either of my other two ideas to get the LiboGC method working (patching the race attack into the IOS kernel itself OR, having Mini reload an IOS when it's done.) Both of them would just require a LITTLE more work but they're still definitely doable.

Thanks for the updates. Cannot resist sarcasm...shadowlag had documents and everything that needed to be done. That was like a month ago or more. Anything helpful there?

If you, pogostick, have something to offer, then tell somebody. Or spell it out so it does not appear you are lost. Every book requires reading. Max explains in his posts just as delta and ninja do.

Well do you need those two links maxternal? I just signed up because this is interesting and I want to help out as much as much as I can. ;)
 
To my knowledge, Max is saving for a Wiiu.
They are hard to get in his region, and there are high gouvernment taxes added to the normal known price.
At the moment, all his software needs to be tested by others, and that is time consuming.

Awww. Nobody has one to gift him? Makes sense. Max can test without waiting on others. Thanks ob for explaining.

I've been following this thread for a while but have refrained from commenting as I didn't want to clog up the thread with anything useless. I'm far too technically inept to offer anything useful to any of the development going on here but I did want say I think it's great that there's people working on this! As I said I don't have any technical skills to offer, but I'm going to paypal a few bucks to show my appreciation. I do occasionally post on Ubuntu PPC forums - most of us run old Macintosh hardware and I imagine they'll be a few interested in the Wii-U as a new Linux PPC platform to play with so I'll spread the word if I can. Either way - keep up the good work guys :)!

So more and more of you have been asking lately to donate to the Tri-Core Team and Maxternal. Well, now is your chance to not only spread some of that holiday cheer but also to be a part of helping us finish this project SOONER rather than NEVER.

We are in dire need of getting Max his own Wii U. This is very important to the progression and finalization of the Tri-Core Teams Trinux development. Yes, we really are at that point now where this can be finished (almost.) With one in his hands, we believe that these processes could indeed move along with quite a bit more haste and with more stable results. Maxternal has unselfishly and tirelessly worked in his spare time and even while at work, coding, compiling, troubleshooting and coding some more. For the better part of a year of him working on this project, he has asked only for those with the know-how to share their knowledge and for a few others to *bravely* and patiently test and give feedback to his coding and findings, respectively.

If any of you GBTempers out there feel that you will benefit (in it's final form) in any way whatsoever from the work that every person has put into this project, then we please ask that you donate ANY amount that you could possibly spare for us to get this guy hooked up with a Wii U (8GB or 32GB) so we can hook you all up. The sooner we get this to him, the sooner this all will be over. In return, we will update you more frequently and with videos and descriptions of what you are seeing and the progress that is being made.

He is in Costa Rica so his Wii U will be a little more expensive unless someone from the US or Canada is willing to just down right donate one to him, otherwise I believe they go for around $600-$700 there (can anyone say "gaping butt-hole.") The perfect plan would be to buy one in the US through an online retailer and have it shipped to a mail/package forwarding service such as this who in turn will send it to Maxternal for a fraction of the total cost if he had to buy it in Costa Rica full-price. So We are looking for roughly $300 Total to cover the rest of what he needs for his Wii U plus the shipping from here to there.

Damn, I'm on my final year of college then I will be working so alas I have no money until about july next year. However I am willing to test and as a programmer myself I could attempt to use what little time I have to try push this project along. Hopefully you get your money and hopefully I can scrounge some money together to donate. If you need any help PM me or something and I will see what I can do. Good luck and hopefully we can get this released before christmas and the c3 talks.

I'm new to this thread/forum, just read the initial post. While the technical details seem dandy, they elude me. Can someone explain, in more layman terms, why 3-core vWii support is significant, and what can be done with it?

Having 3 cores just means you have 3 processors at your disposal allowing a computer, or WiiU in this case, to do 3 things at once. This gives a huge boost to pretty much every common task, especially so with linux, or other operating system, as you have loads of applications trying to do stuff at the same time so 3 applications can be running at once. Normally a computer would give a little bit of time to each application once after the other so they all appear to be running at the same time however in reality they are not.

Ah. Well, I understand the mechanics of having multiple cores/threads, but does this do anything to the actual vWii console functionality? Can games run better? Or is this only useful if you want to run Linux in vWii mode? Would vWii even be able to run games any better using 3 cores?

Thanks for the response, I'm just wondering what the practical implications are for actual vWii/HBC tasks such as game backups, emulation, etc. I don't really see the point of running Linux in vWii with 3 cores other than to say "well, we did it"?
 
Its only useful for homebrew, and also to beat the Failoverflow challenge. If Max et al can get tri-core linux running on vWii, they've promised to share more information on their WiiU level hack that they've been keeping to themselves.

I'm probably far from the best to answer this. But from my understanding the Wii-U shuts down two cores and reduces the clockspeed of the final processor core in order to achieve perfect Wii backwards compatibility, hence, I don't think having all three cores open would help at all. I signed up and donated my $10 for Linux, I for one hope this really doesn't get used for game back-ups and piracy.
