Actually, there have been TWO updates.

Just being an corrective ass here, don't mind me.
Funny that, I've seen 3 updates so far. One was silently installed directly after decrypting on launch day, whilst the other 2 have been announced.

No, you don't get what i am saying. I know you still have to activate it through steam and download updates (i've done it plenty of times with other games) but the op said 'the game is not downloaded from steam'. ie. he bought the game in a store and installed it from the disc (still using steam to activate it), thus not having to download anything (providing he already had steam installed and excluding the updates).

Anyway, @original question i think CannonFoddr's right, I wonder if the OP has fixed it yet.

Had he not pirated the game, it would work perfectly fine.

I'm not saying he didn't pirate the game, he might have done, but you don't know for sure yet; as CannonFoddr said, he might have just had a setting turned off, or a firewall blocking something. Just don't jump to conclusions.

Long story short: he pirated it. And now the imbecile is wondering why he can't play multiplayer. Move along, everyone.
In a similar vein: you pirated the best game this year. Well done, you worthless piece of shit.

Well regardless of whether its a pirate ot not - the bit I posted about the Steam in-game community seems to apply regardless of whether it's a 'downloaded copy' or a 'standalone' version
- It looks as though Steam is still installed regardless
Actually standalone copy is called standalone because it doesn't require Steam. If he was using a cracked Steam, then this would apply.

What?
ALL VALVE GAMES REQUIRE STEAM, WHETHER SHOP BOUGHT OR BOUGHT THROUGH STEAM.
A 'STANDALONE' COPY IS THEREFORE PIRATED.
THEREFORE THIS MAN IS A PIRATE.

HE NEVER SAID HE HAD A STANDALONE COPY. And fix your caps lock.

I also never claimed that standalone wasn't pirated. I was just explaining that it doesn't require Steam.
I can make my copy of Portal 2 standalone, does that make me a pirate?
