How do you figure?

Have you read the topic maybe? If you have the Actel chip it's not 100% you have a clone. You may just have an older Acekard from when they used Actel chips too.

The Acekard has been cloned for ages, only it wasn't called Acekard, but R4 Ultra or whatever else...
But yeah, this has more impact on people looking to buy Acekards.

No its AKAIO thats dead.
In related news, Nintendo has announced that due to rampant piracy they will leave the video game business and start a line of pencil sharpeners. They hope this new business will be more profitable because who cracks pencil sharpeners, know what I'm saying????
Ha Ha very funny.... Mind you they could always go back to what they USE to do - they use to make Playing Cards

... Oh hang on - They USE to make playing cards & now they're trying to prevent a different type of playing cards from being made.... I smell a conspiracy here

the thing is that acekard sold the designs to the ak2 and allowed it to be OEM'ed. the r4 line and some other crap came out of it. then clones of those cards were made.

so its their own fault.

Ahahaha. I didn't know what.
The "AKAIO's dead!!!!!" drama suddenly gets even funnier!

That's new to me. But it just shows they are in for the money, and they don't really care about the end user. I mean just look at the build quality of the cart- it feels cheap and flimsy, and many people are having contact issues. TBH It's the work of a few talented people (the AKAIO team) that made this cart one of the best around.

I bought my AK2i on April 3, 2009. I've been running AK2i 1.5.1 ever since it came out, I also reinstalled it just now. It's running perfectly, I have my DSi on OFW 1.4, still no major problems except maybe the Animal Crossing: Wild World cheats which is supposedly fixed on Nov 17, I haven't had time to try it yet.

The chip does have a bump in it and a window for it to fit, and the Actel chip. I bought it from RealHotStuff.com for $34.20(Ouch) when DealExtreme was sold out.

I'm pretty sure it only applies to the newer chip, it's annoying how they changed the chipset version though as this one makes the card feel asthetically displeasing. The chip information is:
Actel
ProASIC 3
A3P250
VQG100 0821
ZA803237
Korea

The only difference I see is instead of 0821, their picture has 0824 and where I have ZA803237, they have ZA824086Z.

I like how the Acekard team tells us to pay attention when we're buying when pictures aren't always that clear, and they're the ones who are supposed to get rid of fakes. Contact our resellers for real versions? I doubt that, mine is about 2 months short from being a year old.

Edit: After messaging RealHotStuff, it's the newer ones that don't have the window in the back. The old ones are legit.

Aww man, I was really hoping something shady wouldn't happen to the Acekard.

These things are supposed to happen to R4s... Not Acekards!

...That being said, it's nice to know what to look out for.

I'm not surprised, what company has not had their cards cloned?
I'm mostly sure my acekard is an original, but at this point I'm not too concerned unless there is a real threat of it damaging hardware or corrupting data.

Sorry, I don't mean to revive an old thread but I got an Acekard 2i recently. Looks legit but I don't want to peel the sticker off.

I was surprised to hear Nintendo used to manufacture playing cards, and after reading that wiki, I'm even more surprised to hear that they STILL make them today! There goes your conspiracy CannonFoddr.

No problem

As for checking your card out - since this post was last looked at I dug around a few more forums and found some additional info that most people seem to agree on.
Going by the photos on Acekards site can be confusing (especially if you happen to have an older ak2i like I have - based on their photos I have a fake

To find your HW ID - if you can get AKAIO to run, press [Start] > Help - & you'll see a HW number

Depending on the number determines whether you have a 'fake' or not. Searching through forums posts it seems that generally

Acekard 2.1 = HW:80 = Real

Acekard 2i with Actel chip = HW:44 = Real
Acekard 2i with Actel chip = HW:80 = Possible Fake (although it seems AKAIO still works with this version)

Acekard with 'new chip' = HW:81 = Real

Other numbers mentioned but which I haven't found out whether they are fakes or real are 'HW:41' and 'HW:88'
It is Possible that 'HW:41' MAY actually be for Acekard 2's (not 2.1 or 'i'), since it's mentioned in this review.
