there is no reason to partition your hdd at all format the entire thing to fat32
I would if format option on this laptop would let me, from what it looks like on the guide I'm using. It ends up formatting the entire thing to fat32 anyway during the partition.

I'm currently going by this guide on it, and at the moment I'm pulling all the files I need off the harddrive that I need to keep (I don't a lot of space to work with at the moment with this laptop) and after I take them off I'll then partition the hard drive.

As you may notice some will suggest to format the entire drive to FAT32, while others like me suggest to partition the drive, there are pros and cons to all of them. I don't want a limit of file size at 4GB which is what FAT32 will do so I have a smaller partition of FAT32 where I store game backups.

What would be bigger then 4GB on a wii hdd?
Plot twist, it's not just a wii HDD. I use the drive as a backup storage aswell, I've done some recordings with fraps and such before and I like to keep files fused thus the files get waaay bigger than 4GB Anyway we are getting quite out of topic now

unless you seldom use your Wii (and hence the HDD), there is no point using it as a backup.
The more often you use your HDD, the more is it prompt to data corruption especially if you allow data to be written on to it. It is your own stake.

Cheers for your concern but in my case, dropping the HDD on the floor is a much more probable reason that the drive would die rather than data corrruption. I've got multiple backups anyway and It's not that I write data to that drive often anyway.

Well you do if you load homebrew apps from HDD, use Nintendont with GC games on HDD or use EmuNand located on HDD etc...
And i have seen a few cases here that HDD just corrupted for no reason. A few reports on corrupted SD even (including my own SD card); though it is much easier to backup an SD card. After all. the WiiLib is also a homebrew development that I don't trust too much.
