About this deadcafe I keep seeing. what is it? I don't want to read through all of these pages, so could someone catch me up?

Basically there are compiled versions of memchunkhax2 available for download. This doesn't mean a downgrade is possible yet, however it allows us to test the exploit on our systems. AFAIK The test replaces a part of the memory with "DEADCAFE" as a way to test the exploit. That's in basic terms and someone more experienced will probably explain it better.

As for me, I'm on an old 3DS (9.9.0-26E), I got through via the latest menuhax and I get from "Setting up..." to "Map complete."
Nothing after that, the console just crashes and the console has to be switched off (and the program's text still shows after it's switched off).

EDIT: Someone on this page has said to try and test this as boot.3dsx, so it boots when the exploit loads. I did this (on menuhax) and it works (Test value: DEADCAFE) however after that there was a crash, not showing the "Press START to exit" prompt but rather a line. Switched it off, did it again and it worked with the prompt.

Soo you gotta do it with FPT... sadly my o3DS hates ftp (Could never communicate with her), the new 3ds is a different story but I don't know how valid that method is...
...aaanndd IT DID NOT WORK... derp.

Then I booted it up like I normally would to enter menuhax, and it got a "Test Value: 00000000" ... dude these hax hate me or something.

n3ds 9.9.0-26U trying the 99% method.

I guess I'm the 1% because it still doesn't work. Trying to force close multiple apps and will report back.

So it's just a test, huh? Okay, I'll just wait until the full thing comes out!

@Mrrraou Perhaps "oversight" is better than "side effect"?" It only happens because they map the memchunk as part of testing it's validity and then read from the next pointer of that mapped memchunk after. That's why giving it a good memchunk to map and then changing it in that small amount of time works. Isn't the fix just for the memory mapper to check if the next pointer is in a valid location before using it as the pointer of the memchunk? Some promise that it's not been altered has to be there. If I'm missing information I'd like to know. This is interesting stuff, but the 3DS scene isn't my forte.
I think that you're right about that. But I'm not sure about how it was fixed either. I think that you can see it on the 9.3.0 page on 3dbrew.
