finally works on my old 3ds xl 10.3 first tiime after opening and closing ftrbrony and can exit using start!
dont know what ftrbony has to do with it but it works

Boom! Old 3DS 9.9. Got it working first try after using the trick of opening ftpbrony and then exiting.

After renaming it into boot.3dsx, I now get a 100% Success rate on O3DS 9.9.0.26U

It might be that the FTP server starts a thread/service that is needed for memchunkhax2 to work. That's my hypothesis.

Yeah, i hate it when that happens as well.
Especially if on rooted Android, gotta watch for the bootloops. (Which would only happen if you messed with something then rebooted...)

Well an android bootloop is nothing to worry about. Technically you can't brick an android.
Can't say the same about 3ds.

Did you have your wifi disabled when you tried?
I don't think that is the issue but it could correlate with you not being able to get DEADCAFE after force-closing FTBrony.

This worked on first try. I was not able to get it working with any other methods.

I didn't use FTP, I simply removed the SD from my 3DS, inserted it on my laptop, copied memchunkhax2 to the root, renamed it to boot.3dsx, inserted the SD back on my 3DS, and using menuhax I now have a 100% success rate.
