I'm actually more astonished by the balls that Smea and everyone else has by announcing their ARM11 kernal hack and being able to downgrade like they did. The way Nintendo's been about closing up homebrew accesses, it's going to be interesting to see what kind of responses will come out of them.

Right after we get Kernal and downgrade, Nintendo releases 10.4 with a shit ton of new features.

As if Smea cares for piracy. he wasn't the one to announce memchunhax2. And this announcement may just make future firmware systems more immune to piracy.
I think these exploits were released only because homebrew cannot flourish without them.
