It's to keep the game balanced. It's not supposed to be historically/technologically accurate. How would you feel if you had a giant army and you lose because an opponent has a few riflemen?

Alexander's Hoplites WAX THE SHIT OUT OF ALL MY GUYS.
I had a Lightning Catapult, over 15 victories, every single bonus, and Alexander's hoplites took em down without a scratch. ON CHIEFTAIN MODE!
I finally killed the Hoplites with a Tank Army.

I agree 100%. I was very excited about this release and couldn't wait to play it. But the first time my sherman tanks got taken out by these invincible hoplites who apparently are on loan from the planet Krypton, I was OUT!! This game was just deleted from my SD never to return.
I always try to keep an open mind to others' points of view, but the whole "it keeps the game balanced" argument doesn't hold water. I thought the point of the game is to be the first civ to obtain more advanced technology so you can WIN THE FUCKING GAME. If you don't like my tanks running over your archers, perhaps you should do a little better job of playing the game and not get your ass kicked. Am I missing something...

Tanks are not offensive units.
Take them out with artillery.
You gotta get real life out of your head. It would be unbalanced, becuase then whoever teched up to tanks first would dominate. They need to avoid that..

Awesome game. I was playing last night and almost have a tech victory (launched the SS, now do I have to wait a year?). I'm the Mericans and I got Sherman Tanks rolling over enemy Legion and Pikemen units talking 'bout "Get Some!, Get some Fool!" Of course they always declare war on me since I refuse to give up techs. Then they get punked and I import strip malls and firing ranges on their sacred shores.
