Edit: Just finished watching it, wow whats the points its just a naff port, they could atleast do something interesting with the game, oh yeah its being made by Square Enix so the chances of anything new are very slim.

This is a lazy port, why not go in and change it like in
FF 3 and 4.
1995 Chrono's gameplay has aged better than FF4, even the remake. Heck, I'm a FF4 fan and I got disappointed at how much potential was wasted on that remake.

Guess the only change you care about in a remake is the gR4Ph1Xx. Oh well.

Gfx is teh last thing i care about i have ds and a Wii, i only want to see real effort if they are goinf to take a real classic and do it again, this is just the dev wanting money.

I hope this game doesn't sell well. From what I can tell so far this won't be a full blown remake, but just a mere port. If this sells well, and it's almost identical to the original, then that just proves to Square Enix that you can make a quick buck off of uninspired garbage. Throw in a few useless features and fans will think that their purchase is justified. Why not make a new 2D chrono game for the DS? Why not come up with original ideas? Because tools will throw money at them for a game that came out 13 years ago.

I understand where you're coming from, but really think of it this way: If they find that there is a great interest (represented of course by sales) in this game, it could potentially inspire a sequel to Chrono Cross. Or a prequel to Chrono Trigger. Or a side story. Or....something!

Yeah, given the fact the original game was a commercial disaster selling only 2.5 million copies, I'm preeeetty sure it will bomb.

And to those complaining it's not a remake and blah blah blah: hold your horses. CT has aged better than 90% of Snes games, and its awesome 2D art is better than a weak 3D (given the DS' capabilities) remake that wouldn't hold the same charm of the original.

Agreed.

For everyone who says its better they did not change the Gfx, why do you not say the same thing about the FF series, i will tell you why, you are blinded by fanboyism, dont worry i have had it to before.

Actually, there is a reason behind this. Don't tell me I'm blinded by fanboyism either, because I was a main translator for the FFIV Translation Project, along with a programmer. The patch is available here on GBATemp, translated all kinds of stuff. So obviously I'm an FFIV fanboy too. I'll use that as my main example so as to show I'm attempting to avoid bias.

When it comes to many Final Fantasy titles, specifically those under VI, people do not fondly remember the game because of it's graphics. As a matter of fact, when modern-day gamers are introduced to these pre-VI titles, many of them find the incredibly outdated and simplistic graphics to deter from their enjoyment of the game. Some can't play them at all. When I personally think of IV and V, which are two of my absolute favorite games ever, it is mainly the story and characters, followed by unique combat devices and other personalized "charm" that I hold dear.

When they remade Final Fantasy IV (for...the third time...) into a 3D game, they were enhancing an unmemorable part of the game (the graphics), and simultaneously opening the door for many more people to enjoy the title. I thought that was wonderful, and as it turns out it really enhanced the game.

Chrono Trigger, however, is different. Chrono Trigger IS remembered for all the reasons above, but it is also remembered for its art style. Although a remade 3-D Chrono Trigger would be absolutely awesome, I would be incredibly concerned the quality and care that went into the original may just be replaced by what little the DS is even capable of. The original art style of Chrono Trigger is far superior to the primitive 3D of FFIV. This is ok for FFIV; it's graphics were incredibly primitive to begin with, so no harm no foul.

Games after Final Fantasy VI are done in 3D already, so no use mentioning those. I have left VI out because that game, like Chrono Trigger, does have a following for its artistic style. I do not believe that there would be rejection of a 3D game at this point however for one main reason; the game has now been re-made faithfully in 2D twice now. So although there would be worry in its transformation into 3D, its not like we don't have 2 other ports to fall back on.

Chrono Trigger was ported once, to the PSX, seven years ago. However, it should essentially be completely disregarded, as it was terrible. Although it had some neat extras, noteworthy CG movies, and an extended ending (or two...), it had an unacceptable amount of lag before EVERY random encounter you came across. Due to the poor quality of it's execution, Chrono fans really do not have a "proper" port of this game, and the DS will be it.

If anyone actually read all that, you deserve a cookie. If anyone who has played FFIV-FFVI and Chrono Trigger read all that, tell me if you agree

Holy fizzlesticks, you like... read my mind before I could post it.

2d luscious sprites > choppy 3d

All I want is a good story and excellent gameplay. If it's anything like that crap FF3 I'm going to throw it out.

I played through a large chunk of FF3 DS and I thought it was pretty horrible (the story was a joke excuse for mindless grinding, nice graphics though). Ive recently been playing FFVI for the gba recently and think it's amazing.

But to a more related point I think that Square Enix really is going to have to do at least SOME touching up on the graphics to make it acceptable. A reason IMHO is because large numbers of current gamers (including myself) played this in ROM form, which via an emulator has a filtered image which looks much nicer than the original, so at the very least they should do some touch up.

All you people want some sort of "improved grafix" and crap, well I do not. I never had the original so I want it left just like it is on the SNES.

I only had a Genesis.

I played all those games, and I would agree with you 100%..
FFVI was looking great (I still love the atmosphere in the game, the steam, metal buildings..Can't wait to see it redesigned into 3D, I really like the way they did FFIII and IV, so I believe they'll make it even better with V and VI, if they decide to remake it)..
And while I wouldn't mind seeing Chrono Trigger redesigned with improved graphics, I have no problem whit direct port (this way, there are less things to screw up!)

QUOTEi can't wait, i can't wait, i just can't wait >.
