The answer is the egg.
The chicken evolved from the dinosaurs, specifically the t-rex. The course of evolution took place over millions of years as it evolved more and more to the bird we see today.
At one point, an egg was made that was the modern day chicken. This took a large amount of time, but the egg did come first.

chicken came first eggs can't fend for themselves neither can babies. if egg came first the species never would have made it past that first one.
